Celebrating History and Community at The Lantern

This Victoria Day, we celebrate a legacy of service that predates Confederation. While The Lantern was officially founded in 1997, it operates within a community spirit that has been supporting the people of Newfoundland for over 170 years.

Our historic stone walls were completed in 1853 to house the Presentation School. Designed by the same architect as the Basilica, this building stood as a beacon of education and hospitality long before the British North America Act of 1867.

Though our facility saw a modern rebirth in the late 1990s, we remain rooted in the mission started in Ireland by the Presentation Sisters nearly two and a half centuries ago. Today, we carry that flame forward blending the stability of our past with a modern dedication to our vibrant community. As we look toward the unofficial start of summer, we are inspired to remain a light for all who walk through our doors.
