Learn about pests in museums and archives, how to identify them and more with Morgan Glofcheskie!

Morgan Glofcheskie is an emerging museum professional and graduate of the Museum Management and Curatorship program from Fleming College. She has worked at museums across Canada including the Royal BC Museum, and the Canadian Museum of Nature, focusing on Natural History Collections. During her work, she has taken an interest in identifying common museum pests, and developed a museum pest resource in BC. Morgan looks forward to sharing her museum pest knowledge with the ANLA community.

Registration is now open for Heritage Interpretation 101: Presentation Skills, offered as a pre-conference workshop for our 2026 Sustainable Heritage Tourism Conference.

Date: October 15, 2026
Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM NDT
Location: Heart's Content, NL (venue TBD)
Instructor: Anne Madden, Managing Director, MANL
Fee: $100 for MANL/ANLA members and 2026 Heritage Conference participants, and $125 for the general public

This course will outline methods to develop effective communication skills, including identifying and using engaging language and active listening. Participants will also learn about Tilden’s Principles of Interpretation, learning theories and learning styles, the importance of identifying and understanding different audience types, as well as how to tailor programs accordingly. Interpretation techniques, such as object-based learning, storytelling, guided tours and other programs will be briefly covered.

Meet Mary Rose Stafford from Valentia Transatlantic Cable Foundation! She is joining us from Ireland and will be speaking at the Lessons from UNESCO World Heritage Sites panel on Friday, October 16.

Mary Rose Stafford is Vice Dean of Research & Innovation, Faculty of Business, in Munster Technological University. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin she qualified with a BSc Management before gaining 15 years in international hotel management, working in London, New York, Dublin and Kerry.

Since 2003, she has worked in third level education, achieving a Masters in Tourism and a Post-graduate Diploma in Education in 2006. She is co-author of two books and numerous academic papers.

Mary Rose was appointed to the Board of Fáilte Ireland, the National Tourism Development Authority from 2013 to 2017 and received a Fellowship from the Irish Hospitality Institute in 2016.

She is actively involved in tourism development both nationally and internationally primarily focusing on a regenerative approach to tourism. Mary Rose is also a member of the ‘Transatlantic Cable Foundation Board’ seeking UNESCO designation for Transatlantic Cable stations in Ireland and Canada.

Hilda Russell will be joining us from Nova Scotia for our Lessons from UNESCO World Heritage Sites panel to talk about her work with the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic on Friday, October 16.

Hilda Russell is the Curator of Interpretation for the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic in the UNESCO town of Lunenburg, NS. She has a deep personal drive to share the stories of Fishers to show the honour and respect that they deserve. Hilda has worked with the museum for over 30 years and has led various projects, such as the First Fishers Exhibit, and has spearheaded the museum being acknowledged as advocates for Safety at Sea and Ocean Preservation. She continues to work on ways for the museum to enhance the visitors’ experiences with custom programming, new exhibits, events, maintaining and developing partnerships, community engagement, and staff mentoring.

Meet Alicia O'Leary from Legendary Coasts! She will be speaking at the Regional Approaches and Partnerships panel on Friday, October 16.

Alicia O’Leary is the Executive Director of Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland, where she works with tourism operators, communities, and industry partners to strengthen visitor experiences across the eastern region. Her work focuses on destination development, product development, market readiness, and the thoughtful promotion of eastern Newfoundland’s culture, history, landscapes, and coastal heritage.

Alicia leads initiatives that support experience development, regional storytelling, wayfinding, and industry collaboration. She also works closely with Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism and local partners to help operators develop sustainable, market-ready experiences that connect visitors more meaningfully with place.

Through her work, Alicia brings a practical tourism perspective to conversations about heritage; exploring how communities can share their stories, protect what makes them distinctive, and create experiences that are both authentic and economically sustainable.

Ted Rowe from HCDA-Geranium Walk will be joining us for the Regional Approaches and Partnerships panel on Friday, October 16!

Ted Rowe was born and raised in Heart’s Content. After teaching for eight years at Memorial University he began a 30-year career in real estate, bringing the RE/MAX franchise to St. John’s and developing a multi-office network in Newfoundland and Labrador with branches in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He has played an active role in a number of community organizations, serving as chair of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Rotary Club of St. John’s. On a national level, he served on the board of the Heritage Canada Foundation and the Confederation Center for the Arts in Charlottetown.

He has authored four books of historical nonfiction, including two on the history of Heart’s Content. His biography of Sir Robert Bond was short-listed for the Shaughnessy Cohen prize, a national award for political writing. On occasion, Ted likes playing music as a founding member of Crooked Stovepipe, Canada’s longest-running bluegrass band, and with his wife Maureen performing the songs they grew up with.

In his spare time he enjoys travelling, and makes a serious attempt to enjoy good food and w**e. He is currently Chair of the Heart’s Content Community Development Corporation.
