This week we're spotlighting the Bonne Bay Historical Archive!

The Bonne Bay Historical Archive has made substantial progress setting up a mainly digital collection, with strong community support, successful fundraising, and a partnership with Memorial University. The Archive works to preserve and share the rich history of Bonne Bay for generations to come.

Our website, www.bonnebayhistory.ca, remains the primary gateway to the Archive. Throughout the year, we added many new stories, photographs, and audio recordings: these are gradually being added to MUN’s DAI. We also maintain an active page.

During 2025 we held community events in Trout River and Woody Point, with slideshows of historic photos collected by Charlie Payne. These resulted in new contacts with residents and others who offered historic images and stories from their own families.

A fund-raising campaign that ran from December 2024 to January 2025, raised nearly $15,000. A second fund-raiser was held at the Woody Point Legion, featuring a talented group of musicians playing to a full crowd. A loop of some 100 historical photos played throughout the evening and remains with the Legion for frequent showing. The strong response reflects the deep interest among residents and visitors with family connections to the region.
