Canada’s Energy Opportunity: What's Next for Oil and Gas

We were pleased to host Lisa Baiton, President and CEO of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) , earlier this week for a conversation about the evolving oil and gas sector and the projects taking shape throughout the country.

Our key takeaways:

✔️ Our country has bold plans for re-engaging the oil and gas sector. While this is welcomed, there is still work required.
✔️ Canada must assess its competitive advantage and ensure that policy decisions are keeping pace with the conversations to create the conditions for capital attraction. Investors are looking for proof points of Canada’s ability to deliver on this momentum.
✔️ At the provincial level there are no new projects on the horizon despite considerable opportunity for further exploration. Newfoundland and Labrador will need more offshore activity to support Canada's objective of being an energy superpower.

We appreciate Lisa’s time to share her perspective and engage directly with our business community on what’s next for the sector. The Board of Trade will continue to engage with the teams moving things forward on the ground in Newfoundland and Labrador and advocating for progress.

The Board of Trade was pleased to meet with Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship yesterday.

We took the opportunity to reiterate the critically important role immigrants must play in our future. With a shrinking population, welcoming new workers and their families to our province will help us ensure Newfoundland and Labrador can recognize our potential and turn possibility into reality.

Thank you, Minister Diab, for taking the time to meet with us. We will continue to engage the federal government on this important topic to support the growth and development of our province’s population and workforce.
