🔥 SUMMER 2026: RECAP! 🔥

What a summer it’s been for the C.L.B.! From honoring our history to making unforgettable memories at camp, our members showed up, stepped up, and brought the energy all season long! 🎺⛺️🏆

Here is a quick look at what we tackled this summer:

1. July 1st Memorial Day Parade
Musician Ruth Leake proudly represented the CLB Regimental Band by performing the Last Post and Rouse at the Memorial Day Ceremony at the National War Memorial in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

2. C.L.B. Summer Camp (June 28 – July 4) 🌲
Starting the summer off right! A full week packed with campfires, archery, outdoor survival skills, team sports, Crafts, air rifles, kayaking, canoeing, survival, and lifelong friendships made under the sun at Springwood Discovery Camp

3. The Garden Party 🎶
The CLB Regimental Band performed at the 2026 Lieutenant Governor’s Garden Party on July 22, 2026 with Their Honours, Lieutenant Governor Joan Marie J. Aylward and her husband, Carl R. Thompson.

4. The Royal Newfoundland Regatta 🚣‍♂️
Taking part in North America's oldest continuous sporting event! The CLB and the CLB Regimental Band have enjoyed a long and proud association with the Royal St. John's Regatta. CLB crews have rowed on Quidi Vidi Lake since about 1900, while the CLB Band has performed annually and operated a lakeside concession since 1964.

Once famous for serving some of the best hot dogs at the Regatta, the CLB concession has evolved into a popular duck pond featuring plenty of prizes for younger visitors.

Throughout Regatta Day, the CLB Band will continue its long-standing tradition of providing great music and entertainment for all to enjoy. Stop by for a listen and perhaps share some of your regatta memories.

Did you know… The CLB has a long history with the Royal St. John's Regatta. In fact, during the 1902 Regatta, the CLB crew won their race with a broken oar.

It was in the Brigade race between the Catholic Cadet Corps (CCC) in the Red Cross against the CLB in the Bob Sexton. Almost as soon as the starting gun was fired, Frank Miles of the CLB crew broke his oar. Knowing that the only option was to continue, coxswain Arthur Williams urged the crew to go on.

As the race proceeded, the CCC crew had already rounded the buoys before the CLB got there. Trailing at one point by five boat-lengths, the two boats were nearly even just eight yards from the finish. The CLB crew surged forward and crossed the line just four feet ahead of their rivals in a winning time of 10:10. The newspapers later called this one of the most exciting races ever rowed.

While the CLB doesn’t row anymore, the band still plays at the Regatta every year on the bandstand as it has since 1964. Please stop by for a listen, or perhaps bring your kids to visit the CLB duck pond concession!
