🌱 One of our favourite parts of our Summer Neighbourhoods Gardening Program is seeing kids return week after week to check on something they've planted and cared for themselves.

This summer, our young gardeners planted seeds, got their hands dirty, harvested fresh produce, and discovered the joy of caring for something they could truly call their own. Every week brought new growth, new lessons, and new reasons to be proud.

As summer comes to an end and our gardeners get ready to head back to school, we're feeling grateful. Thank you to our staff, volunteers, community partners, and supporters who helped make this season possible. Bethany has volunteered with House of Friendship for many years, beginning in college and later inspiring her family to get involved as well. Her parents and niece have all volunteered in our Food programs, making service a shared family commitment.

Bethany's long-standing connection to House of Friendship inspired her to continue her family's legacy of generosity. By including a gift in her and her husband's will, they have chosen to support House of Friendship's work for years to come, and providing continued support for the community.

Snack Attack is more than an afterschool snack program, it's a reliable source of support for kids and families.

What makes a place feel like home?

Is it the people around you?

A place where you feel safe?

Knowing that if you're having a difficult day, someone will notice and check in?

For many of us, including Becky, who moved into one of our supportive housing units after struggling with homelessness, home is more than a building. It's a feeling of connection, belonging, and community.

“After years of living in a tent, I still didn’t believe it was real. It wasn’t until I got my keys that I believed it was real. And the care package I received when I moved in was so special, so sweet. It made me feel like I was home.”

Over the next several weeks, we'll be exploring what it means to have a place to belong and sharing stories that inspire this year's Friendship Dinner theme: Welcome Home.
