Friendship Dinner 2026 was a great success!

Last Saturday, we came together with 550 of our closest friends for an evening of inspiration, celebration and exciting announcements! Jennifer Scott, our CEO, revealed the upcoming opening of Cedar Village, and the launch of Phase 2, a new Charles Village which will bring 70 new affordable housing apartments to Waterloo Region.

There is no single pathway into homelessness.

Data collected through Waterloo Region's Point-in-Time Count in 2024 highlights the variety of circumstances that can lead to housing loss. For many participants, the primary factor was not having enough income for housing. Others reported challenges such as conflict with a spouse or partner, landlord or tenant disputes, unsafe housing conditions, and substance use issues.

Understanding the realities behind homelessness helps challenge common misconceptions and encourages a more compassionate response. Every person's journey is unique, and addressing homelessness requires solutions that recognize those different experiences.

Together, we can build a community where everyone has access to safe, stable housing.

Homelessness is complex, and so are the solutions.

The journey from homelessness to stable housing often involves different types of housing and support along the way. From emergency shelter and supportive housing to affordable and market-rate homes, each step plays an important role in helping people find stability and independence.

House of Friendship continues to advocate for and invest in diverse housing options. Friendship Village is one example of how our community can strengthen the housing continuum by creating supportive and affordable housing where people can build a foundation for the future.

A housing system works best when there are options available at every stage of the journey.

Health care comes in many forms, and sometimes it has four paws. 🐾

Meet Pabu, ShelterCare’s favourite weekly visitor. As a therapy dog, Pabu provides comfort, connection, and emotional support to the men staying at ShelterCare. For many residents who have experienced significant trauma, healing isn't just about having a safe place to stay, it's about rebuilding trust, reducing stress, and finding moments of peace.

Each week, Pabu brings smiles, companionship, and a calming presence that supports mental wellbeing and reminds residents that they are cared for.
