True North Aid We're dedicated to providing practical humanitarian support to northern and remote Indigenous communities in Canada.

As a Canadian registered charity, our mandate is to provide practical humanitarian assistance through initiatives established on eight foundational stones of support. These include self-determination, reconciliation, water, food, health, housing, culture and education. Many Indigenous peoples who live in the most remote regions of the country experience an extreme lack of access to essential and a

ffordable resources. In addition, Indigenous peoples experience ongoing negative impacts of forced assimilation, restrictive policies, and displacement. Examples include residential schools, intergenerational trauma and many other policies under the Indian Act 1876. Therefore, Indigenous peoples in Canada face striking inequities in health and wellness outcomes, education, food, economic sovereignty and housing security, particularly those living in northern and remote communities. True North Aid believes that Indigenous self-governance and self-determination are key to addressing these inequities and empowering Indigenous peoples to build a brighter future.

Curious about Indigenous History Month, or just about Indigenous history and culture in general, but unsure of where to start?��True North Aid believes in making educational resources as accessible as possible. We are always learning.

From e-books on terminology, to ways to get involved and start your own campaign to make a difference, the True North Aid website offers many different resources on how to listen, learn, and be a better ally and advocate of Canada’s Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit communities.

The Back to School Program provides school-supply filled backpacks for elementary and high school students. We make a conscious effort to source our supplies from Indigenous-owned businesses and this year we are proud to once again partner with Indigenous Reflections

Your support can make a lasting impact. If there’s a time to make a contribution, it’s June!

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to celebrate and honour the many traditions, cultures, and histories of Indigenous, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

It is also an opportunity to reflect on the endurance and leadership of Indigenous communities, and to intentionally and continuously learn about the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the importance of truth and reconciliation.

We here at True North Aid will be planning our month around various events and opportunities to show support, and we encourage you to do the same!

These events provide valuable opportunities to learn, connect, and make memories celebrating Indigenous cultures and traditions.

True North Aid is blessed to have supporters and donors that go above and beyond in terms of generosity and showing up for the programs and communities we have.

One donor in particular has been showing up in ways that have touched the hearts and minds of us at True North Aid, her written letters and emails bring a smile to our faces.

On top of giving monthly, she tries to support specific programs that connect to her personally, reaching out often to us to show her love, and we want to show our appreciation and love right back!

This month, Lisa had the opportunity to travel to Winnipeg, MB and spend time with longtime True North Aid friend and supporter, Strini Reddy of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg.

True North Aid and Strini share a relationship built on years of friendship, generosity, and a shared commitment to supporting northern and Indigenous communities.

A retired educator and recipient of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers from the Governor General, Strini has dedicated so much of his life to supporting others through service, advocacy, and compassion.

Over the years, his support of True North Aid has helped strengthen connections, create opportunities, and remind us of the incredible impact that genuine relationships can have.

We are deeply grateful for Strini’s continued friendship and for the care he brings to every conversation, initiative, and community he supports.

These days, kids don’t get to play outside enough.

This isn’t a callout for too much screen time, it’s a reminder and an expression of gratitude that children still need playtime, and thanks to our supporters, we were able to see the positive impact play and community still have on youth.

In 2025, the Hockey Cares Exchange brought Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth together through friendship, culture, and playful competition across visits in Oakville, Ontario and Constance Lake First Nation.

Youth had the opportunity to build meaningful and lasting connections and deepen cultural understanding, whether through exploring post-secondary and firefighting pathways in Oakville, participating in fire-making competitions in Constance Lake, or sharing traditional Oji-Cree foods, there was no shortage of fun experiences thanks to the generosity of our supporters and collaborators.

A special thank you goes out to Chief Robert Allan, Hailey Chum, our volunteers, community partners, and supporters, including Oakville Fire Department, Wanui Outrigger, Charterability, the Lions Club, and Film.ca (so many thank-yous!) for helping create these unforgettable experiences and lasting memories for everyone involved.

True North Aid is proud to support the Tarek Leahy-Chicot (TLC) Camp in partnership with Northern Youth Leadership. This healing and leadership initiative focused on building cultural connection, community wellness, and Indigenous self-determination.

The camp honours the memory of Tarek Leahy-Chicot, a young land-based leader that worked closely with Northern Youth Leadership director Dr. Steph Woodworth during their PhD and who participated in and helped lead on-the-land camps in Kakisa.

Northern Youth Leadership has long created opportunities for Indigenous youth across the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut through culture based programs that build leadership development in Indigenous youth, strengthen self-identity, and encourage connections with Elders and community members.

True North Aid is honoured to help support programs like TLC camp that respond directly to communitiy-identified needs, while empowering Indigenous youth as future leaders, knowledge keepers, and changemakers.

Thanks to the continued support of Communities, partners, and advocates, Moon Time Connections expanded its reach and impact across the country throughout 2025.

From supporting over 69,000 menstruators in 173 Communities to growing culturally grounded education through the Moon Time Auntie and Kin Program, this year marked another important step toward accessible, Community-led menstrual equity nationwide.
