There’s no perfect way to prepare for a medication abortion, but having a few comfort items within reach can make the experience a lot easier 🩵

Our go-to recommendations? A heating pad or hot water bottle, heavy-flow pads/underwear, easily available snacks, lots of water, comfy clothes, something to keep your brain occupied, and whatever makes your space feel safe and cozy.

The most important part? Your abortion pills, the medications recommended by your care team, and knowing who to contact if you have questions or need support 🫂

What would you add to the kit? 👀 Share your recommendations in the comments!

This week’s investigation had us WALK-IN in circles 😵‍💫🔍

For folks without family doctors or access to timely appointments, walk-in clinics fill an important gap in healthcare.

But what if the doctor on shift isn’t willing to prescribe a medication abortion?

What if they are ill-informed on the more stigmatized aspects of healthcare, like gender-affirming care or birth control?

What if you don’t have OHIP, and get sent for expensive tests or exams?

What if they direct you to walk-in somewhere else…?

Let’s break down the investigation 🔍

Nearly 1 in 4 Ontarians don’t have a family doctor - but what if you’re one of the other three?

What if your family doctor is one of many who practice belief-based care denial, and won’t prescribe medication abortion or gender-affirming care?

What if they don’t offer in-clinic procedures like IUD/implant insertions, pap tests, or injections?

What if they have the willingness, but haven’t pursued the training or practice to do so with confidence?

What if they send you in search of Somewhere Else too? 🤔

Unsure what period product(s) is best for you and your body? We can help!

Did you know SHORE Centre is home to free period products available to the community? It’s true! Period products such as menstrual pads, tampons, and menstrual cups can be picked up from our clinic anytime during our business hours (Mon-Thurs, 9AM-4PM) by anyone who may need them, or is looking to explore their options 🤔

What topic should we cover next on Your Options: Explained? 🖍️ Let us know in the comments!

For years, people have reported sightings of a mysterious place known only as…Somewhere Else 🕵️‍♀️🧶

According to eyewitnesses, it’s where people can always go for the s*xual, reproductive, and gender-affirming healthcare they need.

There’s just one problem: no one seems to know where it is.

Over the coming weeks, SHORE’s highly unofficial Somewhere Else Investigations Unit will be following the leads, questioning the assumptions, and using an irresponsible amount of yarn to uncover what really happens when patients are told they can “just go somewhere else.”

To be clear: SHORE is still here. This series is about why that matters.

Join our mailing list for new leads, additional evidence, and curious updates as the investigation unfolds 🔍

In late July of 2015, after one of the lengthiest drug approval processes on record, Health Canada approved the abortion pill Mifegymiso 🎆

Prior to its approval for use in Canada in 2015, Mifepristone was already available in 60 countries! Its use has been approved in France and in China since 1988 (!!!) and has maintained an outstanding safety record throughout the world. Though followers of the anti-choice movement are always looking to prove otherwise, Mifegymiso is a safe and effective means of managing both medication abortion and miscarriage.

Happy approval anniversary Mife, we 🩷 you forever.

Our movements are strongest when the people within them are cared for 🕯️

Rest. Boundary-setting. Community. Joy.

Self-care isn’t separate from reproductive justice - it helps make it possible 💜

After our recent update, many people reached out regarding how they can best support SHORE right now. So we enlisted Bernie to help us out with the hard part…asking for what we need.

There are many ways to stand with us in this moment: making a donation, becoming a monthly donor, sharing our story, introducing us to people who care about this work, attending future events, advocating for sustainable funding, and helping more people understand why s*xual and reproductive healthcare, education, and support matter.

For more than 50 years, SHORE has continued because our community has continued to believe in this work.

Thank YOU for being part of that community ❤️
