At our recent Spring Luncheon, members heard from ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐ƒ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ ๐‰๐š๐›๐ฌ, the inaugural ๐‘๐จ๐ฌ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‡๐จ๐ฉ๐ž ๐‚๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ข๐ซ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ญ ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, who shared how she is helping transform breast cancer screening, imaging and care across southeastern Ontario.

The afternoon took an emotional turn when former Chair and breast cancer survivor ๐‹๐ฎ๐œ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž ๐ƒ๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ shared her story. While preparing for the event, she discovered that the radiologist who cared for her during treatment more than a decade ago was none other than Dr. Jabs herself.

Today, Dr. Jabs is leading efforts to improve breast-health care for future generations by reducing barriers, improving access and ensuring patients feel supported throughout their journey.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jabs for sharing her work and to our members whose generosity continues to fuel groundbreaking research and innovation close to home. ๐Ÿ’–

On Wednesday, June 10, University Hospitals Kingston Foundation welcomed community members to The Spire for another engaging ๐“๐š๐ฅ๐ค๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ƒ๐จ๐œ๐ฌ ๐„๐ฏ๐ž๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š๐ญ ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐’๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐ž. Dr. Purzner shared her story, tracing a path from groundbreaking discoveries in pediatric brain cancer research to co-founding EatCerebelly, a company focused on supporting healthy brain development in children. ๐Ÿง 

Her message was a powerful reminder that curiosity, determination and innovation can lead to extraordinary impactโ€”both in health care and beyond.

Guests also enjoyed hands-on displays from the Canadian Museum of Health Care, exploring the history of neuroscience through fascinating artifacts and interactive exhibits that perfectly complemented the evening's discussion.

๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Œ๐œ๐‹๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ง is an ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐‚๐š๐ซ๐๐ข๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ and the current ๐‚๐š๐ซ๐๐ข๐š๐œ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ ๐Œ๐ž๐๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐ƒ๐ข๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ at KHSC. In addition to her clinical role, she is the ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‚๐š๐ซ๐๐ข๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ at Queen's University Health Sciences.

๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐€๐›๐ฎ๐ง๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐š๐ซ is also a ๐‚๐š๐ซ๐๐ข๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ at KHSC with clinical interests including general cardiology, cardiac imaging and interventional cardiology.

The duo work alongside one another in the where patients from across southeastern Ontario, who have various heart conditions, receive specialized care including heart surgery and more come in to receive expert care. ๐Ÿซ€

Their goal is always to provide the best clinical care while listening to patients and loved ones to ensure they donโ€™t feel alone and are actively involved in all decisions about their care and treatment plan.

After funding Breast Imaging โ€™s breast-dedicated MRI machine, the group is now helping fund the inaugural ๐‘๐จ๐ฌ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‡๐จ๐ฉ๐ž ๐‚๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ข๐ซ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ญ ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก โ€” a leadership role dedicated to improving access, innovation, education, and patient care across southeastern Ontario.

๐‹๐š๐ค๐ž๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ฐ ๐Ÿ is comprised of ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฑ ๐Œ๐ž๐๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐Œ๐š๐ง๐š๐ ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ, an inpatient program at Providence Care Hospital that is offered to patients who have multiple chronic diseases. Length of stay varies by individual patient needs, and are determined by the interprofessional care team. ๐Ÿฅ

In her role as ๐”๐ง๐ข๐ญ ๐€๐ข๐๐ž, Gordon supports patients with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, dressing) and maintains a safe environment. She assists patients and clients with behavioral, emotional, and physical needs during their time at the hospital site. ๐Ÿ’
