What is lost when critical community supports disappear?
A new report from the Social Justice and Mental Health Lab explores the closure of a Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS) site and low-barrier shelter in Kingston, and the impact felt by service providers, leaders, policymakers, and advocates.
Check out our new report from exploring the closure of a and shelter in response to a community crisis. We present this report in the context of recent policy shifts that have undermined efforts across Canada. A powerful, and timely quote from one of the participants in this research:
"How can we help inform people? How can I help inform you in a really judgement free way, what happens at a CTS? What happened there in that particular situation, and why most of what we hear is just not - it’s just not true. And it’s not that it’s upsetting to me that people don’t know all the details or understand this, the nuances, and the complexity of it. If you really want to know, then we can help
people understand…how complex of an issue it is." [Kari]
