📸 Two tower cranes in Charlottetown.

Not long ago, seeing a tower crane on PEI was a rarity. Today, they are a sign of a growing city…more housing, more businesses, and more people calling Charlottetown home.

We support that growth.

But as our city grows, public safety must grow with it.

That’s why we continue to advocate for 4 Firefighters on the first arriving apparatus. New buildings don’t respond to emergencies. Firefighters do.

While cranes build our city, firefighters protect it.

🚒 Charlottetown Firefighters Make a Rescue! 🚒

This morning, Charlottetown Firefighters responded to a report of a worker in need of rescue on the side of an office building.

Engine 1 and its crew of three firefighters arrived to find a man uninjured, but trapped approximately five stories up. On-call firefighters responded with Ladder 2, our 100' aerial platform. Engine 1's crew utilized the aerial device to safely extricate the individual without harm.

Thank you to all CFD members, Charlottetown Police, and Island EMS who responded to assist.

Incidents like this require multiple personnel and resources to be managed safely and effectively. An additional fourth firefighter on the engine would have been a tremendous asset, helping support rescue operations while maintaining coverage for the rest of the city.

🚒👏 Great teamwork by all involved!

The Charlottetown Professional Firefighters are pleased to see the process moving forward to replace our aging rescue boat.

These boats are a vital piece of lifesaving equipment, used for water rescues, boat fires, and emergencies on our waterways. While we are grateful for the support of our mutual aid partners, having a dedicated rescue boat in Charlottetown helps ensure the quickest possible response when seconds count.

We would like to thank Interim Fire Chief Tim Jenkins for getting the process started to replace this important asset. This investment will help protect the residents of Charlottetown, surrounding communities, and the many visitors who enjoy our beautiful waterfront each year.

Keeping firefighters equipped with the right tools helps keep our community safe.

On Saturday evening, just after 8:00 PM, Charlottetown Firefighters were dispatched to a reported forest fire.

Engine 1 and its crew of three firefighters arrived to find an active fire burning in a large wooded area that was beginning to spread.

Firefighters quickly deployed pressurized water extinguishers to slow the fire's spread while additional arriving crews stretched a hoseline to bring the incident under control.

Thanks to the quick actions of responding firefighters, the fire was contained before it could spread further and cause significant damage.

This incident once again highlights the need for 4 firefighters on the initial response and improved citywide fire coverage to ensure the safest and most effective service for our community.

Thank you to all firefighters and partner agencies who responded.

Your Charlottetown Professional Firefighters were proud to attend the 2026 Atlantic Canada First Responders’ Mental Health Conference, hosted right here in Charlottetown.

Over two days, first responders, healthcare professionals, researchers, labour leaders, and organizations from across Atlantic Canada came together to learn, share experiences, and discuss ways to better support the mental health of those who serve our communities.

A special thank you to APPFFA President Joe Triff for representing firefighters on the conference panel. Joe spoke about the direct impact staffing and deployment decisions can have on member well-being. When firefighters are continually asked to do more with less, the effects extend far beyond emergency response.

Thank you to our own Winston Bryan, the organizing committee, Wounded Warriors Canada, Trillium Health Partners Insight Health Solutions, the City of Charlottetown, and all sponsors for making this important event possible.

These conversations matter, and we are grateful that Charlottetown had the opportunity to host them.
