🌟 Did you know that this week is National AccessAbility Week (May 31 – June 6)?

This week is a time to celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities across Canada, and to recommit to removing barriers and building a more accessible, inclusive society for everyone.

Last year, the Atlantic branches of the Canadian Bar Association hosted its Neurodiversity in the Workplace: Supporting Neurodivergent Individuals at Work webinar.

Led by Laura Fair (BBA, MSc), Founder and Senior Consultant at ABOUND Consulting, this session explores:

✅ The concept of neurodiversity and its relevance in the legal industry
✅ The strengths and challenges of neurodivergent individuals
✅ Practical strategies for fostering inclusion as colleagues and leaders

We’re pleased to be cohosting today’s PD session with the The Law Society of Prince Edward Island, on the topic of adult children with disabilities and support issues. Our presenters, Melanie Battaglia, Battaglia Law, and Stephanie Dickson, Pooran Law, will be presenting on issues relating to the support of adult “children” over the age of majority who are unable to withdraw from parental charge by reason of their disability, mental health disorder or illness, with a particular emphasis on government (federal and provincial) social benefits available to offset support payable by the parents.

The presenters will also address consent and capacity issues as they pertain to the adult “child” in a support proceeding, including notice requirements, participation, and decision-making rights of the adult “child”.

Thanks to our presenters for coming to PEI to offer this session, and to all who attended!
