June marks a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, diversity, and joy of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. 🌈

It is also a time to recognize the ongoing barriers many people still face. Experiences of discrimination, exclusion, and inequitable access to safe housing, healthcare, education, and community support can have a significant impact on mental health and well-being.

At CMHA Calgary we believe mental health is deeply connected to safety, belonging, connection, and equity. Pride is not only a celebration, but also an opportunity to continue learning, advocating, and creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and valued for who they are.

While Calgary’s official Pride celebrations take place in September, our commitment to inclusion, community, and mental wellness continues year-round.

There are many events, initiatives, local businesses, artists, and community organizations to support throughout Pride Month and beyond. We encourage everyone to take part, show support, and help create communities where everyone can thrive!

June is Buddy Up Month, and we're proud to be joining the conversation around men's mental health and su***de prevention.

Our Survivors of Su***de (SOS) Team at CMHA Calgary recently set up a Buddy Up resource corner in our Welcome Centre, complete with information, stickers, and conversation starters to help make it easier for people to check in, reach out, and support one another.

A simple conversation can make a meaningful difference. This month, we're encouraging our community to buddy up, look out for one another, and create space for honest conversations about mental health.

Thank you to Buddy Up for the resources and the important work you do to promote connection, prevention, and community.

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour and celebrate the rich cultures, languages, stories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

It is also a time to reflect on the ongoing journey of reconciliation by listening to Indigenous voices, acknowledging truths, and supporting healing, community, and justice. At CMHA Calgary, we are committed to walking alongside Indigenous communities with respect, learning, and care.

Throughout the month, there will be many opportunities to learn, connect, celebrate, and support Indigenous communities, businesses, artists, and events. We encourage everyone to take part, show support, and continue learning beyond this month.

SOS events provide participants with additional opportunities for connection, community, and wellness outside of regular session programming.

These offerings are designed to create supportive, low-barrier spaces where participants can engage with one another through shared experiences, meaningful conversation, creative exploration, movement, and grounding activities.

Thinking about attending an SOS Community Care session but feeling unsure about what to expect?

Watch this video as our SOS team walks you through what a session looks like and how peer support can help you connect with others who understand.

SOS Community Care sessions is a peer-led program for individuals who have struggled with su***de personally or have experienced su***de loss. You don't have to navigate it alone. 💙

For questions about the SOS sessions, help with registration, questions or to connect with a team member who has lived experience with su***de, please email our team at survivorsofsu***[email protected]
