🕊️ Remembering, reflecting, and renewing our commitment to peace.

On Saturday, August 8, our community came together to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Through remembrance, reflection, and community, we honoured those affected and renewed our shared commitment to building a world where peace, compassion, and nonviolence guide our future.

This gathering was part of our Building a Culture of Peace Month—a month dedicated to creating spaces for learning, connection, and action. Because peace is more than a moment of remembrance. It is something we build together, every day. ☮️

ICAN reports that there are roughly 12,187 nuclear warheads with 9,600 in active military stockpiles according to the 2026 Nuclear Weapons Bans Monitor.

There are 9 leading countries that still carry nuclear warheads with Russia and USA approximately carrying over 5000.

July marks the annual remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide and its victims.

In July 1995, the Srebrenica genocide claimed the lives of more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys, marking the largest mass killing in Europe since the Holocaust.

July 1 is a day that holds different meanings for different people.

As many mark Canada Day, it is also important to recognize that this country exists on the traditional territories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. For many Indigenous communities, this day is a reminder of a history of colonization, displacement, and the ongoing impacts of residential schools and systemic inequities.

Lets not forget.
