PUPPY MILL RESCUE: After reading if she interests you, we are seeking an adopter for Mimi in a warm climate….Osoyoos, Oliver, Vancouver Island. If you would be so kind and cross post for us if you have friend and family in these warm towns.
As you can imagine, a dog living its life in a cage, it has health issues, especially if 10 years old. She was then abandoned to forage for food. She arrived at a shelter when picked up half her weight as now.
BREED: Silky Terrier
GENDER: Female
AGE: 10 years old (surviving a puppy mill as a breeding dog :( then abandoned on the streets. Spayed in shelter prior to us pulling her before euthanasia.
FAVORITE THING: Food! Good food! Meaning, not kibble!! Meal time! Mimi is over the top happy in the morning, running for joy, knowing she gets to eat and it’s really tasty! She loves salad, (we make great one with homemade dressing and lots of ingredients and make extra for her), steamed, cooked veggies, applies, breakfast burritos, all yummy leftovers, meat and fish, eggs prepared every way, spaghetti, everything we like, healthy food. It’s obvious she had to scourge on the street after abandonment for any food at all.
Sitting on your lap. Sleeping right next to you under covers at night. Curled up on dog bed with blanket when sleeping. Warm days and warm house. She gets cold easy. Going for car rides sitting on your lap. When arrive at destination, carry her out for a p*e. Walks on leash, no pulling, she stay right next to your feet at slow pace. She can run for joy though when off leash in mountains! She likes hiking. Keep on leash or she can wander quickly and get lost.
HISTORY: Pulled from large shelter after found homeless on the streets after living in a puppy mill. Mimi never learned to play or had the love or security of anyone that cared for her. It’s obvious she had a deprived life till now. When we first pulled her from the shelter, placed for euthanasia due to health issues and age, she hid in corner of yard soon as she taken out to p*e. All she knew was to hide in a corner and stay until we went and got her and brought into house. Due to being a breeding dog in a puppy mill/backyard breeder, she has health issues and housebreaking we are working on. She never had a loving caring person to look out after her welfare either health or general enjoyment basics in life. She was found on the streets in San Jose California extremely emaciated and totally shut down. She was like a mop. She had no personality. She expected nothing. She just stayed curled up on the shelter floor on a blanket. We witnessed she had PTS.
SIZE: Small, lap size and temperament
TEMPERAMENT: Calm, very sweet. Very affectionate. Very grateful. Excited now about things she likes. She acts like a puppy! Mimi has such an endearing temperament all we can do from here on out is make up for her terrible past. She looks forward to her tasty meals with such excitement like no dog ever known! And thats thousands of hungry dogs!
PERSONALITY: Mimi has now come out of her shell and frisky, especially in morning since she knows she is getting a good breakfast. Can’t imagine what she had all those years before in a puppy mill, but we know it was not tasty or good. lap dog, loves to go out to do things. Mimi is great around big dogs, cats, little dogs and all people of all ages. Careful if have big or rambunctious dogs since she could be plowed over. Mimi is happy to be in multi pet household, all animal household, no other animal household.
HEALTH: Due to making it to 10 years without anyone to take real care of her, she has health issues. We knew this at time of pulling her and wanted to give her happiness and show her love and someone to care about her. It has been so worth is. It will take the exact right adopter though who is fine with her health issues and sees its part of care taking for an animal that needs a caring, responsible, dedicated person. We are looking for adopter in a warm climate, BC, Alberta.
Things to consider when adopting Mimi other than her age:
-not the best with housebreaking, its hit or miss with p*eing on p*e pads (no carpet!). Must be ok with laying down papers towels, etc., and wiping up. No reprimands! It’s not her fault.
-she needs ongoing water due to her kidneys are not in great shape likely due to depravity when younger. She p*es frequently after, so can take her out to p*e, have easy access to outdoors with door open, hence , looking for warm climate. Osoyoos, Oliver, BC, would be the best.
-her fur gets oily easily so needs a bath once a week. It’s easy to do. She needs someone who has time and wants to caretake. She will give back with just her endearing presence, 1000 times over. She is worth all the effort. She will give anyone who is wanting a small , loving, sweet companion , even adventurer (if tired on a hike she can go in a doggy backpack, she does not complain!)
-ongoing grooming for her fur that grows. She was found with fur in her eyes and could not see.
-speaking of her eyes, a serious matter is she was found with a damaged eye due to tear duct that does not function. We have been cleaning 3 times a day and using eye drops, antibiotic ointment after seeing a specialist twice. She may need in near future removal of that eye, please check in with us about that.
-Mimi’s heart may not be in the best shape, but you can’t tell and her personal heart is as loving and endearing as can be.
-Evan after 3 groomers we took her too during her time with us, and a spay a 10 years of age that included a nail clipping, her nails are still long. If an animals lives in a cage, its nails can normally wear down and continue to grow. Mimi will need regular and short clipped nail clippings. (The nail ‘quick’ continually grows and you can’t cut it, it will make the vein bleed and painful. People clipping need to cut only the dead part of the nail. Dremel’s work well in cases like this.)
NEEDS: She is just happy to be cared for and loved,…with Good food! I know, we can not stress that enough! She does Not need veterinary kidney type kibble with toxins, tasteless, and marketed to help kidneys. It does Not! She wants and deserves, healthy food we eat. She deserves this, after a life in a cage with tasteless horrible kibble barely keeping her alive. Her happiness moments is when she is in kitchen knowing we are getting really tasty real ‘human’ food ready for her. She is Overjoyed. She eats it with a vengeance. She deserves good food. Forget the kibble and save your food for her or make her real food. Not commercial kibble. Sautéed veggies, good yummy salads, anything we truly look forward to eating, so does Mimi.
BEST MATCH: Mimi needs adopter willing to take on her health issues, which aren’t that hard, but she’s not the perfect dog we find most our adopters are looking for. A warm environment since she shivers in a house if not heated well. Taking her on car rides with you, walks, someone nearby in the house. She enjoys people around and especially, someone to give her tasty healthy food, Not kibble!! That is a Must! Need a fenced yard so she doesn’t get lost since she can get turned around easily. She is definitely not a search and rescue type dog!! Mimi would be best with an adopter who wants a small, very loving and appreciative small dog that deserves to have the best life she can have moving forward. She does not look back! She has changed immensely since day spotted shut down in shelter room with little personality. She has turned into the sweetest animal ever and will be very hard to say goodbye to her. Seems like the dogs with the most amount of effort needed to put into them, are the ones the steal your heart. She is one of those dogs. A true companion for someone that needs a calm, quiet, loving little dog in their life that needs them as much as you do.

MISC: MIMI is good with kids, animals, all ages people. Since hiding in a corner of the yard away from everything, she is a new being. The chance we gave her on life, she was scheduled for euthanasia at the shelter if not pulled by a rescue in near future, we could not be more grateful giving Mimi this life and finding her forever home. Even with her health concerns, other than p*eing in the house if can’t get outside, and not very big p*es, she is worth it. She does not know to go to lawn, dirt, gravel, she p*es on concrete, floors, where ever, outside in AM when take her out…she’s great. She never had the luxury to go outside in normal environment to eliminate. She needs someone like us, that is fine with that. She has improved as time has gone on, to learn, outside is where to p*e. It just goes to show the sad level of deprivation she faced in her life.
*Mini now has veterinary documents from OPTHAmologists, vets, and shelter veterinary documentation and invoices which we can share upon request.
**Mini now has appt. likely to have her left eye removed due to the damaged eye duct is causing cloudy eye, infections, constant cleaning.
