A few weeks ago, we celebrated a historic milestone in Rotary: the chartering of the Rotary Club of Mohkinstsis Urban Indigenous, the first Indigenous Rotary club in the world.

The charter ceremony, held on July 3, marked the culmination of more than a decade of collaboration, dialogue, and relationship-building between Rotary and Indigenous communities. It was an honor for our members including Gerry Darichuk and Steve Fehr who serves as Co-Chair of the Rotary District 5360 New Club Development Subcommittee, to be part of this meaningful occasion.

A special acknowledgment goes to Dan Doherty, whose dedication and leadership helped bring this vision to life. Now a member of the Rotary Club of Mohkinstsis Urban Indigenous, Dan’s commitment has been instrumental in this historic achievement.

The event included a touching moment when members of the new club presented a ceremonial blanket to Mary Helman, Rotary Zone 28 & 32 Director, in recognition of her participation in the charter celebration.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Mohkinstsis Urban Indigenous on this remarkable beginning. We look forward to the positive impact this club will have for generations to come.

The sun was out, so were we 😊

Last week, we held our annual “Passing of the Gavel” event where we celebrate & close our Rotary year and usher in a new one with a new Board, new energy and renewed commitment to community impact.

It goes without saying, that this is always perfect way to also kick-off Stampede celebrations.

Thank you to all our outgoing committee & new committee, and thanks to all our amazing club members - we look forward to a year of even greater impact.

Rotary is powered by people who consistently make a difference & this month we had the opportunity to celebrate one of them.

Congratulations to Doug Storey, who was recognized with a Paul Harris Fellowship during one of our recent club meetings.

The Paul Harris Fellowship is one of Rotary's most meaningful recognitions, honouring individuals whose commitment to service creates a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.

Thank you, Doug, for your dedication, leadership, and commitment to Service Above Self. We're proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition with you.

This month, we were also honoured to join woods_homes as they celebrated 100 years of service in Bowness - a truly remarkable milestone.

For a century, Woods Homes has been supporting children, youth, families, and individuals through some of life's most challenging moments. Their dedication to creating safe, supportive, and inclusive spaces is an inspiring example of community in action.

Mental health remains one of the most complex challenges facing our communities today, and we are grateful for organizations like Woods Homes that continue to lead with compassion, innovation, and care.

Congratulations on 100 remarkable years of impact!

Halfway through the month and halfway through the year already!

We're proud to share a few highlights from June and some of the ways our club has been living out Rotary's commitment to service, connection, and community.

This month, we joined conversations around the "Connect Together" Initiative, championed by our District 5360.

The initiative focuses on building stronger relationships with communities that have been underrepresented both within and beyond Rotary across Southern Alberta. By listening, learning, and engaging with one another, we're helping create a more welcoming, inclusive, and connected future for everyone.

Because meaningful service starts with meaningful connections.

We kicked off this month with an exciting experience, touring the Cold War Museum where we learnt so much about the Royal Canadian Air Force.

We learnt so much of its history and we got to experience the great fighter jets they used at the time, facilitated by three incredible pilots that flew these aircrafts.

The UCalgary Rotaract Club was well represented at the 5360 District Conference by a team of young people who are doing amazing things in their communities.

We encourage more young people to join Rotaract clubs across Calgary, the U of C club is one of those you can consider.

This past weekend, we participated in the District Conference.

It was a great time to reconnect with other clubs in District 5360 to celebrate all the impact we’ve collectively made and are making, exchange learnings, share some of our initiatives (e.g: the Ukraine Medical support program), share some laughs, etc.

Exciting to see all the amazing work being done across our District.

We’ve come to the end of our Anniversary week which has been full of much reflection, lots of gratitude and inspiration to do more, go bigger & better💪🏻🤩.

As Connie shares in this video, there is much value in being a Rotarian and especially being part of our club 😉 - which has truly been about doing some good in the world.
