Calgary Floating Lanterns

✨ What is the meaning behind the floating lanterns? ✨
Symbolically, releasing floating lanterns comes from a traditional Japanese ceremony called “Tōrō nagashi” (灯籠流し). Originally, these beautiful glowing lanterns represented the departed spirits of lives lost, offering prayers for their peace and bliss.
Over time, this tradition has blossomed into a powerful collective ceremony. Today, we also release lanterns to pray for global safety, prosperity, and happiness for everyone. 🕊️🕯️
$10 for a Lantern to rent, and $20 for 3 Lanterns to rent.
Join us in keeping this beautiful tradition alive!

We are proud to invite Eisa drumming group, Shima Kaji. It was established in 2025 as part of Calgary Okinawan Club to share the beauty of Okinawan culture with Albertan. Shima Kaji means "island wind" — a reflection of the free, traveling spirit we carry with us. Shimakaji bridges generations, united by a deep love of Okinawan heritage. Through traditional music, Eisa dance, and community gatherings, we honor the traditions of our ancestors, strengthen community ties, and welcome anyone who love the vibrant culture of Okinawa. "The enemy we must fight to put an end to the nuclear age is not nuclear weapons, nuclear-armed states, or nuclear development states. What we must truly confront and overcome is the "ideology that condones nuclear weapons," which is willing to annihilate its opponents in order to satisfy its own desires."
