USYD Autonomous Collective Against Racism - ACAR

USYD Autonomous Collective Against Racism - ACAR We are a USyd based student body for those who identify as BIPOC and hold anti-colonial values

This is the public page of USyd's Autonomous Collective Against Racism. Here we share announcements, events and resources broadly related to our collective and it's politics. Founded in late 2013, ACAR stands for the principles of autonomy and self-determination, especially as it applies to anti-racist activism. We strive to provide a safe space for those who identify as a Person of Colour, Indige

nous or as marginalised by White Supremacy on campus. Additionally we engage in various projects of self-empowerment, community building and anti-racist activism. Unless otherwise stated, the content on this page is not reflective of the position or beliefs of the collective as a whole, and is not indicative of collective endorsement.

ACAR's next meeting will be held this Friday, the 29th of May, at 12pm! Come join us at the Ethnocultural Space on the ground floor of Manning House (behind Sushi Izu), or through an online option accesible through our Discord server. *ACAR organising meetings are autonomous to those who identify as Bla(c)k, Indigenous, a 'person of colour', or an ethnic background marked or marginalised by white supremacy. (We acknowledge that these terms of identification are imperfect and/or not consistently defined across cultural and historical contexts; please DM us if you're unsure about any of these terms!)

Join us to watch the Palestinian documentary “Five Broken Cameras” on Friday 29 May!

The documentary records the firsthand accounts of protests in Bil’in, a Palestinian village in the West Bank with a rich history of anti-occupation activism fighting against the Israeli settlements.

There’ll be FREE food, zines, and a post-film discussion where we’ll be sharing resources on the long history of Palestinian activism and the movement for liberation.

The .usyd board candidate profiles have officially been published by and these are the 6 candidates who stated support for BDS in the USU and working towards an apartheid-free USU.

ACAR has been working on making the USU an apartheid-free zone, where we recently sent an open letter to the entire USU board detailing our demands.

You can sign on today to join us as we fight for a more just and transparent USU!

We are calling on everyone, including individuals, organisations, and groups, to sign and share this open letter that the Autonomous Collective Against Racism (ACAR) has launched in response to the apathy that the University of Sydney Union (USU) has consistently shown towards the Palestinian cause. The open letter can be viewed and signed via the link in bio or the QR Code.

The USU has maintained its relationship with companies complicit in the ‘israeli’ genocide of Palestinians, namely those that are on the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) list, as well as businesses which show little regard for human rights standards, such as Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, and Nestle. Thus, the USU are willing enablers of colonial violence, supporting businesses that materially assist the illegal occupation of Palestine by the Zionist entity. We call on the USU to adopt BDS principles, pledge to drop all current relationships and refuse future working opportunities with BDS targets, and become an Apartheid-Free Zone immediately!
