๐Ÿ’™ Their families
๐Ÿ’™ Carers
๐Ÿ’™ Loved ones
๐Ÿ’™ Those who are bereaved

Breathlessness and a persistent cough can be easy to attribute to another, more common illness. This is how people can fall through the gaps and miss an early diagnosis.

The '2026 Guidelines and Recommendations for the Management of Pleural Mesothelioma in Australiaโ€™ set out a clear pathway to counter this:

โœ… Investigations when symptoms don't resolve
โœ… Image appropriately when there is a clinical suspicion
โœ… Refer promptly to a specialist respiratory service linked to a thoracic cancer multidisciplinary team when findings warrant it
โœ… Ask about a patient's work history early, as it is a meaningful part of this picture

The guidelines are also explicit that the patientโ€™s GP remains central to their ongoing care, including .

Coordinated care doesnโ€™t stop at the clinic. A diagnosis brings a wave of questions, and itโ€™s where our Specialist Support Nurse can provide compassionate care, working alongside the patient and advocating for them with their medical team to help them navigate what comes next.
