🌏This is Mina Elliott – climate justice campaigner and City of Greater Geraldton’s 2026 Young Community Citizen of the Year!💫

Mina was recognised for co-founding and leading the Aycc Geraldton – an organisation fighting for climate justice through beach and river clean-ups, rehabilitation works, art days and spreading community awareness.

Reflecting on why she is active in her community, Mina says: “I personally think it is so important to help educate and grow the community to build stronger, more aware and connected people. I think having a strong community is important because it helps people feel more supported and allows for an open and friendly environment for people to learn and be welcomed into.”

👭 2 Sisters, One Big Impact 💥

Chloe and Tasha Gunson were jointly recognised as Shire of Dardanup’s 2026 Young Community Citizen of the Year, for the multiple roles they play in community basketball 🏀

The girls coach, referee, manage and score for teams and games with the Eaton Basketball Association and South West Slammers.

Why do they do it? Tasha, who also works in a Goodstart Early Learning Centre, explains it all comes from a passion for helping and nurturing kids.

“It offers opportunities for the children in the community to play, develop, build and be supported in a sport they love. By making an impact in the community in basketball, it not only offers the children opportunities to advance their skills, but also have the chance to support the community and other children in basketball by refereeing or learning to score.”
