The Makuru season has arrived 🌧️

Across Noongar boodja, Makuru brings the first heavy rains, cooler winds, and signs of life preparing for what’s ahead. Swans begin nesting, wardongs fly in pairs, and bursts of blue and purple appear across the landscape.

It’s a season of change, connection, and new beginnings. Across the South West we continue to see this reflected in the lives of the people we support - because even in the coldest months, there is movement, strength and the promise of what’s to come.

This National Reconciliation Week, our teams across Perth, Kalgoorlie, Albany and Esperance came together to listen, learn and reflect.

We were privileged to tune into the live broadcast of Reconciliation WA’s 2026 Reconciliation Breakfast - captivated by the stories shared and the powerful reflections offered by speakers.

Across the state, our teams then gathered at the sites of the three Outcare-sponsored National Reconciliation Week flags in Kings Park, Albany and Kalgoorlie, holding yarning circles grounded in listening, respect and shared understanding. These sessions created space to reflect on how each of us can take meaningful action - within our work, alongside the people we support, and at home with our families.

As we mark National Reconciliation Week, we are reminded that reconciliation belongs to all of us. It is an ongoing journey - one that calls us to explore, understand and honour the histories, cultures and truths that shape our nation. As Narelda Jacobs shared in her keynote, reconciliation calls on us to be all in, all the time - not just during this week, but every day.

During Family and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re proud to launch Outcare’s Family and Domestic Violence Practice Approach.

This approach strengthens how we show up - grounded in safety, trust, choice and collaboration - and sets a clear standard for how we support individuals, young people and families experiencing or impacted by family and domestic violence.

As Toni Bolte, Outcare Therapeutic Lead shares, “this isn’t just a document, it’s giving voice to our people and their practice, and more importantly, to those with lived experience who are amongst us in our work every single day.”

Across all of our programs, this means more consistent, trauma-informed care, more intentional practice, and a deeper focus on creating environments where people feel safe, respected and empowered.

This is not a one-off moment. Over the coming months, we’ll be working alongside our teams to thoughtfully embed this approach into everyday practice - ensuring it is lived, understood, and delivered in a safe and considered way.

Because how we show up matters.

We all have a role to play in reconciliation - this National Reconciliation Week and every day that follows. 🖤💛❤️

At Outcare, we see reconciliation as an ongoing commitment - one that lives in our relationships, our practice, and the way we walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families and communities.

It’s about listening deeply, acting with respect, and creating space for culture, connection and self-determination to thrive. It’s also about recognising the strength, knowledge and leadership of First Nations people, and ensuring these voices are centred in the work we do.

We acknowledge that reconciliation is not a destination, but a shared journey - one that asks all of us to show up with humility, accountability and a willingness to learn.

Through our RAP commitments, partnerships, our pathways and everyday interactions, we remain focused on building safer, stronger, and more connected communities.

Our refreshed brand reflects our strategic direction as we respond to growing and changing community needs, while continuing our long‑standing focus on meaningful support, advocacy and social impact.

Djeran is the Noongar season that marks the shift into autumn - a time of cooler nights, gentler winds and balance. It’s a season of slowing, of noticing change, and of preparing for what’s ahead. Traditionally, Djeran is a time to reflect on the months that have passed, to take stock, and to ready ourselves for new ways of being.

As we move through this season, Djeran reminds us that growth doesn’t always come from rushing forward. Sometimes it comes from pausing, strengthening connections, and making considered shifts that allow people, partnerships and practice to thrive.

Djeran invites us to move forward thoughtfully, grounded in connection, listening and respect for this Country and the people we walk alongside.

Last week, Outcare was proud to take part in the Telethon7 Giving Celebration, recognising the collective impact of Telethon and its beneficiaries across Western Australia.

Outcare was represented by Lachie Eldrige, Diversion and Prevention Manager, and Serina Gill, Marketing and Communications Lead, joining fellow beneficiaries, partners and supporters to celebrate the power of community-driven change.

With the support of Telethon, Outcare continues to work alongside young people impacted by trauma, providing guidance, stability and the tools they need to build stronger futures and make positive contributions to their communities. Telethon’s ongoing commitment plays a vital role in strengthening this work, and we’re grateful to be part of such a powerful network of organisations driving meaningful outcomes across WA.

The Telethon7 Giving Celebration was a timely reminder of what can be achieved through collaboration, generosity and a shared belief in brighter futures. Thank you to Telethon and the WA community for your continued support.

This week, our teams came together to celebrate World Social Work Day, recognised globally on 17 March 2026.

The theme for this year - “Co‑Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society” - speaks directly to the heart of social work and the work we do every day at Outcare.

Across our services, our social workers and frontline practitioners walk alongside people navigating complex systems, challenging circumstances and pivotal moments in their lives. Through collaboration, advocacy and compassion, they help build pathways toward safety, connection and opportunity, strengthening individuals, families and communities in the process.

We are incredibly proud of our staff who embody this commitment every day, co‑building hope and pathways with the people we support.

Thank you to our social workers and practitioners for the care, courage and professionalism you bring to your work, and for the difference you make, often in ways unseen but deeply felt.
