👏 Cabrini workers have voted YES to their new EBA!

Our new three-year Enterprise Agreement has now been endorsed by workers, with 91% voting YES, and delivers pay rises of up to 18%, while ensuring Cabrini employees will be paid at the same rates as the Victorian public sector by the end of the agreement.

Here’s what HWU members have won:

📈 Increased allowances, including a new Lead Apron Allowance and higher travel allowances.

⏰ Better conditions, including improved access to overtime and a four-hour minimum engagement for casual employees.

🏥 Improved leave entitlements, including earlier access to long service leave and the ability to use personal leave for medical appointments.

🧑‍⚕️ Improved classification structures to better recognise workers’ skills and responsibilities.

These wins are the result of a year-of-organising from an exceptional team of new delegates!

🏥 More than 26,000 incidents of violence against healthcare workers were recorded in the past year.

At the New Footscray Hospital, serious health and safety concerns remain unresolved. The mass privatisation of the workforce has created significant issues with management engaging with staff and responding to critical safety concerns.

Management is refusing to install security barriers at reception because they would impact the building's "aesthetic". Staff have also been given electric blankets because of inadequate heating.

Chronic understaffing is forcing staff to work longer hours to keep services running.

The Health Workers Union is working with staff to hold Western Health and Compass accountable and ensure these serious safety breaches are resolved.

🩷 THREE MAJOR WINS FOR WORKERS TAKE EFFECT TODAY

From today, millions of workers will benefit from three important union-won changes.

Minimum and award wages are increasing

Employers must now pay superannuation at the same time as wages

Paid parental leave is increasing to 26 weeks.

👏 UNION WIN AT ST GEORGE’S HEALTH

Code Responders at St George’s Health have secured back pay of up to $25,000 each after HWU members raised concerns about unpaid Code Grey responder rates.

After speaking with HWU Metro Organiser Gavin Sharpe, workers were informed they were entitled to back pay.

Five employees have now received major back payments, a huge outcome driven by members speaking up and standing together.

For HWU member Richard Jamieson, the message to other workers is clear:

“Don’t be silent. Speak up. If you want to get something done, contact the HWU.”

Our Public Sector Pay Deal is across the finish line 🩷

The Fair Work Commission has certified our EBA.

Hospitals will now begin implementing pay rises, backpay, and improvements to our entitlements.

🎉 Congratulations Lani!

Between the public sector campaign, building delegate networks, and representing members on site, our Metro Organiser Lani Dumas has spent the last six months completing his Master’s thesis.

He has now finished it and received a High Distinction for his thesis on the exploitation of PALM workers and the role of unions in protecting them.
