FareShare FareShare is a charity which cooks free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough. WATCH: https://vimeo.com/656791734 You are making them feel better.

We operate kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane where our chefs and volunteers cook millions of meals a year. FareShare is a charity that has been cooking free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough since 2001. We believe that every Australian deserves a nutritious meal, regardless of their circumstances or location. FareShare operates Australia’s largest non-profit kitchens in Melbourne and Br

isbane where chefs and volunteers work hand in hand to cook the best possible meal for every person in need. Each year FareShare transforms rescued, donated and our homegrown food into millions of delicious, healthy meals that feed dignity and wellbeing for Australians experiencing hardship. A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact. Our healthy meals are given away free to frontline charities such as soup vans, homeless shelters, women’s refuges and community food banks. The demand for meal relief has never been higher with the soaring cost of living, frequent natural disasters and the lingering effects of the pandemic hurting millions of Australians. As a charity we rely on the generosity of philanthropic foundations, businesses and individual donors. When you support FareShare, you are not just feeding someone in need. You are giving them a ready-to-eat meal which takes the worry out of going hungry and the stress out of cooking. Visit us for more https://www.fareshare.net.au/

It’s been an exciting winter at FareShare’s flagship Dingley Farm as a new water bore was drilled – providing a vital water source to fill up our dam in preparation for watering vegetable crops in the warmer months 💦

The bore was dug 127m deep to reach the groundwater and has a good flow of 60L/min, which will provide the farm up to 15 megalitres annually. That’s lots of water to help us grow veggies for our FareShare kitchens! 🥦🥔🥬🫑🫜

Thank you to the Marian and E.H. Flack Trust - who provided funding for the bore drilling - and the BoreWell team for helping secure this important water source for our farm.

For Abbotsford kitchen volunteer Jennie, a recent experience proved the impact that FareShare meals make.

Jennie recently joined the WARM: Winter Accommodation Resource Movement that provides safe overnight accommodation and meals to people experiencing homelessness during the winter months.

She shared, ‘A few nights ago, I was pleased and proud to see that we were serving FareShare meals to our guests.’

‘It was when one of our guests complimented the chef and others wanted seconds, that I piped up and told them a little bit about FareShare and that I probably helped prepare those meals as a volunteer!’ said Jennie.

It’s incredible to see the full journey of a FareShare meal - from food donated or grown at our farms, being cooked in our kitchens and, finally, being enjoyed by those who need it most. That is also thanks to volunteers like Jennie who make a real difference in the lives of people across our communities.

Last Friday, FareShare joined organisations at the Melbourne City Council National Youth Volunteer Week Expo, where young people gathered to learn about volunteering opportunities across the city 🙌🏻

It was a busy afternoon, with more than 500 attendees from universities across Melbourne.

Our booth attracted strong interest from students keen to contribute their time, skills and enthusiasm to support food relief and community programs. Conversations focused on recruiting new kitchen and garden volunteers, as well as potential interns across communications and marketing, data analysis and volunteer administration.

The expo was a great opportunity to raise awareness of FareShare’s mission and connect with young people looking for practical, meaningful ways to make a difference.

We’d like to thank City of Melbourne Council, the organisers, schools and universities, and everyone who stopped by for a great afternoon!

This week, we're celebrating National Youth Volunteering Week (NYVW) by recognising the contributions, leadership, and potential of young volunteers across Australia 🙌🏻

At FareShare, young people make a real difference by helping prepare meals for Australians experiencing hardship, while also developing valuable life skills, building confidence, learning teamwork, and experiencing the positive impact they can bring to their community.

We're taking this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all the schools, students, teachers, our program volunteers, and our Youth and Community Volunteer Coordinator - Pauline, who make our schools program such a success ❤️

Last month, we launched Christmas in July at our FareShare kitchen with two of our corporate volunteers, Bank Australia and Medtronic 🎄❄️🎁

Their teams generously shared their time and kitchen skills to help prepare a total of 4,300 meals for Australians in need, all while being in the jolly spirit of Christmas!

Santa 🎅🏻 and Mrs Claus 🤶🏻 even made a surprise visit bringing more holiday cheer as a thank you to our volunteers.

We will soon be launching our end-of-year Christmas volunteer experiences, so stay tuned.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Patrick from Nice Rice by Honestly Riverina to our Melbourne warehouse and kitchens. During his visit, he saw first-hand how their generous donations are making a real difference, from their large sacks of rice in our warehouse to the nutritious meals being prepared and shared with people doing it tough.

We are incredibly grateful for partnerships with generous donors like Nice Rice. They help us create more varied and healthy meals like the Chickpea and Vegetable Satay, while getting fresher, quality food to communities across Australia. It's a powerful reminder of how donated food can be transformed into nourishing meals for people who need them most.

Food insecurity continues to affect more Australians every day. If you’d like to donate food from your business, email our team at [email protected], call 1800 263 283 or go to secondbite.org/donate-food.

People experiencing food insecurity deserve meals that feel familiar, comforting, and worth looking forward to 🥘

Recently, FareShare received a donation of halal goat meat. One of our skilled chefs, Chef Indy, saw an opportunity to create something special. He sourced authentic spices with his own money and brought them into our kitchen to create a curry with flavours true to the dish.

The end result was more than 700 serves of goat curry and rice, made with halal ingredients.

Thanks to a generous donation and Chef Indy's care, many people can enjoy a meal that feels like home and one that was connected to a significant cultural celebration, with the meals distributed to communities during Eid.

Our kitchens are powered by people from many cultures, bringing their skills and traditions together to cook meals for communities in need across Australia. At FareShare, we're not only filling plates, we're making sure our meals reflect the diverse communities we serve.

If you'd like to donate or volunteer with our amazing team, visit FareShare.net.au.
