There has been a lot of recent activity on the Walmer St Bridge in Richmond. Way finding finger boards have been installed for pedestrians, but the addition of footpath wayfinding for cyclists would be a huge improvement, Yarra Bicycle Users Group Radio on 3CR City of Boroondara Boroondara BUG

Progress update:
City of Boroondara end is looking great and the improved gradient will make the northern approach much safer, however it can't be opened until Salta complete the ramp on the southern end. Constructing the ramp is a condition of Saltas contract. It appears that Salta has held off delivering their contractural requirement until the very end of their construction to fit with their landscaping schedule, rather than complete the works during the current bridge closure.
The pillar that will support the path branch is visible and lots of scafolding but that appears to be all. a long way to go and they appear to be in no hurry, after all, theres no profit in delivering the bridge access ramp for them. Work has finally started on the southern ramp on the Walmer Street Bridge at Abbottsford. The old ramp has been removed and Salta are preparing to construct the new connection. The City of Boroondara works on the northern end of the bridge are almost complete and through Saltas delaying the works on the southern end this key link in the Yarra Trail and the Capital City trail will remain closed until February 2024.

Salta Properties have closed the Riverwalk shared path that provides access to the Yarra Trail at Abbotsford.
The closure is to enable them to replace the southern ramp of the Walmer St bridge, a contractural obigation to be met by the developer, works that should have been undertaken whilst the bridge was closed for the northern ramp replacement.
There are no signs to inform path users of the detour, who to contact regarding works or the closure duration. There is plenty of space on the fencing at both entrances to provide for this.

Following a protracted hold up Parks Victoria and its contractors will start work on removing the Gipps Street steps this Monday.

Finally we have a update to when access will recommence: City of Boroondara to finish northern land bridge works by August 2023. Salta Properties are commencing work on southern land bridge with expected completion by December 2023.

But bridge users remain stuck with a old, narrow heritage listed bridge in the middle of these 'new' approaches.

When will state government step up with assisting a 'new river crossing' as mentioned by both Boroondara and Yarra City Council in this rapidly re-developing area?

The City of Yarra is an inner metropolitan municipality which is home to a diverse community of about 94,000 people.
