Arts Centre Melbourne union members have voted overwhelmingly to accept a new agreement.

Together, ACM workers across CPSU, MEAA and ETU stood their ground and fought collectively for the pay and conditions they deserve.

This is a significant win for our Arts Centre workers whose wages have gone backwards for nearly a decade

Vale Tim Read.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Tim Read, Member for Brunswick, from metastatic melanoma.

In July, despite being gravely ill, Tim stood alongside CPSU members and the community at our rally to save VicHealth.

Tim was a doctor and public health researcher before he was a politician. After his own cancer diagnosis, he spoke about the role VicHealth had played in funding public health campaigns like SunSmart, educating generations of Victorians about skin cancer and the dangers of sun exposure. Tim said that had those campaigns existed when he was young, they might have reduced his own risk of developing melanoma.

When the Government announced it would abolish VicHealth, Tim joined the fight to save it. Even as he became increasingly unwell, he kept making the case for VicHealth and for the prevention work it funds.

VicHealth is saved for at least another year. That was won by VicHealth workers, CPSU members, Friends of VicHealth, the community, politicians from across the political spectrum, and Tim. Not one of us could have done it alone.

In his valedictory speech, Tim said that politics was the work we do to improve people's circumstances, not only now but into the future. He called it "hope in motion."

He also expressed his hope that the next Parliament would rethink the decision to abolish VicHealth. We hope so too. But hope has to be accompanied by people prepared to fight for it.

Tim leaves that fight to the rest of us now. We will honour his contribution to it by continuing the campaign to save VicHealth.

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) jobs on the chopping block are known as the “if something goes wrong roles”.

These job cuts are a direct result of EPA funding being cut by the state government.

With more large-scale infrastructure projects on the horizon, Victorians need a guarantee from the government that their health and safety is not at risk – not less funding for the people who keep them safe.

Arts Centre Melbourne workers stopped work for 24 hours again today in their fight for fair wages.

After years of high inflation, workers are facing yet another real wage cut.

Arts Centre Melbourne is Australia’s largest performing arts venue.

It is a treasured Victorian institution that brings world-class performances and cultural experiences to millions of people each year. Its staff are responsible for its continued excellence.

But to continue delivering at that standard, it must be properly staffed and funded.

Congratulations to staff at Parks Victoria who have reached in-principal agreement, after fighting for better pay and conditions for more than 12 months.

Last Friday Arts Centre Melbourne union members went on a 24 hour strike in their fight for fair pay.

It was wonderful to see so many people come out to support them.

Management chose to cancel shows and inconvenience performers and audiences, instead of paying their staff properly.

Protected industrial action will continue for Arts Centre Melbourne workers this week, as they prepare for another 24-hour strike on Friday.

The strike will impact several performances on Friday evening.

These workers will not back down until a fair agreement is reached – they are willing to fight for what they deserve, which will ultimately lead to the longevity of skilled staff in the arts industry.
