We were incredibly honored to welcome the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, to Melbourne Salvos 614.
It was a privilege to showcase the vital work being done across our community- supporting those experiencing hardship, providing hope, and creating pathways to a better future. The visit highlighted the importance of compassion, connection, and collaboration in strengthening our community.
We’re grateful for the recognition of our team, volunteers and partners, whose dedication makes a real difference every day. Together, we continue to stand with those in need and work towards lasting change.

We were pleased to host a morning tea this morning to thank the legends who were behind the mask of Captain Amenity at the Moomba Birdman Rally in March. The City of Melbourne's City Safety, Security and Amenity team raised over $5000 for the work we do at Salvos 614. Every single cent has made a meaningful difference. Thank you so much for helping us to help Melbourne's most vulnerable.

Look at these gorgeous hand knitted scarves that were donated this week. All of the love and kindness that went into their creation will be so appreciated by the community members who receive them. There is so much kindness in the world. Thank you to the special donor.

Fantastic turn out for the launch of the Footscray Lighthouse Cafe today with Premier Jacinta Allan, Minister Ingrid Stitt, Katie Hall MP and Mayor Mohamed Semra all in attendance. We had Western Bulldog’s player Tom Liberatore’s gourmet dim sims & Cody Weightman’s artwork. Ferguson Plarre jam donuts and gozleme & turkish delight from our neighbours next door. African drummers, a brass band and acoustic music. What a celebration. Tomorrow the real work begins and we’ll open our doors serving free breaky & lunch to those who need it from 10am.

There is something good growing in Footscray… check out the incredible mural & digital artwork created for the Lighthouse Cafe by Cody Weightman from the Western Bulldogs.

We’re thrilled to share that The Couch International Student Drop-In Centre has received a High Commendation in the national Welcome Cities Award category. The awards ceremony was held in Adelaide this week. This achievement is a testament to the incredible dedication, care, and collaboration of Elle, Nicholas, and our amazing community of Couch volunteers. Together, they are making a real and meaningful difference in the lives of international students across our city. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to Elle and Nicholas for your ongoing commitment to creating such a welcoming and supportive space for everyone who walks through our doors.

👏 Congratulations to all involved- this is something to be truly proud of!
