This was never about funding an organisation. It was about supporting people experiencing homelessness, hardship and disadvantage in our city.

As our evening food program faces closure at the end of September, it is those people who will bear the greatest cost.

Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece said he is working closely with the Salvation Army to find funding to support it's continued community contributions.

Before the 2024 Lord Mayoral election, Melbourne Salvos 614 was promised $6 million over four years by Nick Reece to help sustain our work in the heart of the city.

That promise remains unfulfilled.

Without the funding that was committed, we are left with no choice but to close our evening food program at the end of September.

Every night, this program provides food, dignity, community and hope to people experiencing hardship. We are devastated that it has come to this.

We believe Melbourne can do better.

💊☕ Healthcare is about more than appointments- it’s about connection, trust and support

One of the valuable services strengthening the wrap-around care at Melbourne Salvos 614 is our on-site pharmacy support, delivered through a partnership with the Wellness Partners Foundation.

For people experiencing homelessness or hardship, managing medications can be incredibly challenging. Safe storage, regular access, understanding prescriptions and navigating the health system are hurdles many of us rarely have to think about.

By embedding pharmacy support alongside GPs, addiction specialists and mental health clinicians, Project 614 is helping bridge those gaps and making healthcare more accessible, practical and person-centred.

What makes this model so powerful is the relationships behind it. Through everyday conversations over a coffee, people can raise health concerns, ask questions and access expert advice in a safe, welcoming environment.

It’s all part of ensuring that some of Melbourne’s most vulnerable community members receive the holistic care, dignity and support they deserve. 💙

🚔💙 Brendan was honoured to attend the Police Veterans Victoria Corporate Annual Luncheon at the iconic Crown Palladium on Friday. ✨

The luncheon is Police Veterans Victoria's premier annual fundraising event, bringing together corporate partners, community leaders, serving and former police members, and supporters to celebrate and support Victoria's police veterans and their families.

The afternoon highlighted the incredible service, sacrifice and resilience of those who have dedicated their lives to keeping our communities safe. It was also a powerful reminder of the importance of ongoing wellbeing, connection and support for police veterans as they navigate life beyond the badge.

A special thank you to the Crown Resorts Foundation for hosting this outstanding event and for its continued commitment to supporting organisations that make a meaningful difference in our community. 👏

What a morning! The Primo was at Melbourne Salvos 614 at 6.30am cooking up 450 magnificent egg & bacon rolls. Collingwood Football Club did an amazing job in volunteering with Captain Darcy Moore, Jamie Elliott, Sarah Rowe & Brit Bonnici cooking up a storm! It was also great having Sunrise along for the morning. Days like this make a huge difference in the lives of those doing it tough. It lightens the load a little and reminds people that they are seen, heard & valued. Well done and a huge thankyou to everyone that attended & that helped make it happen, especially so early on a very cold Saturday morning.

What a special milestone for our community 💙
We were incredibly proud to celebrate the launch of Births, Deaths and Marriages services at The Salvation Army Melbourne- BDM’s first and only face-to-face service. This is a powerful and practical step forward in making essential services more accessible for those who need them most 🙌

We were honoured to be joined by Minister for Government Services, Ingrid Stitt, who shared:

“The Salvos do incredible work for Victorians, and we are proud to play a part in reducing some of the barriers faced by people experiencing disadvantage.”

For many in our community, navigating official processes can feel overwhelming- or simply out of reach. This partnership helps break down those barriers, offering dignity, connection, and access to vital identification and documentation close to home. Because without ID, people can’t access housing, income support, or even medical care. For so many we walk alongside, this service will be the beginning of real, lasting transformation ✨

Adding to the joy of the day, the launch coincided with our monthly birthday celebration at the Magpie Nest Café 🎂 A big happy birthday to David and Sunni- and a special shoutout to Minister Stitt, who we discovered is also celebrating a June birthday! 🎉

Here’s to restoring identity, creating new pathways, and building stronger, more inclusive communities—together 💛
