Amaze A leading autism org driving change so Autistic people & their families can live their best lives.

Amaze is a leading autism organisation driving change so that Autistic people and their families can live their best lives. For over 50 years Amaze has been supporting Autistic people and their families, founded in 1967 by a group of parents who were struggling to find autism resources. Back then, we were known as the 'Victorian Autistic Children's and Adult's Association' and over time, our name has evolved, first to Autism Victoria Inc in 1999 and now to Amaze in 2013. Although our name has changed, our purpose remains the same — to be a central source of reputable information for the autism community and support Autistic people and their families. Based in Victoria, we now have national reach and are the home of Australia's national autism info line — Autism Connect. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. Recognising our work provides services to the Autistic community in all corners of the land now referred to as Australia, we extend this acknowledgement to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across this continent.

Support at school is what makes learning possible for many students with disability, and it should be protected.

We’ve joined disability, education and community organisations in an open letter asking the Victorian Government to reverse its cuts to Disability Inclusion, or at the very least pause the decision and fully fund schools for 2027.

If your child receives support at school, you may have questions about what next year will look like. Nothing changes for the rest of this school year. Every student’s situation is different, so your school is the best place to start, and your next Student Support Group meeting is a good time to raise it.

While so much is changing for Autistic people and their families, our advocacy continues.

Over the past month, we’ve made three submissions on the new support needs assessment and functional capacity assessment.

In this video, Chris, our Community Partnerships and Engagement Manager, shares what we’ve raised: accessibility, review rights, and making sure fairness is built into every level.

Our submissions are shaped by research, data, and what Autistic people and families tell us through community meetings, webinars and our new Lived Experience Network.

If you’d like your experience to help shape our advocacy, you can join the Lived Experience Network. The link is in the comments, along with all three submissions. 👇

Struggling to name feelings, or not knowing what your body is telling you?

Our new Autistic Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub brings together free resources for Autistic young people, and for the parents, carers and teachers who support them.

Inside you’ll find:
📘 Toolkits on alexithymia and interoception
🔋 Workbooks and guides on Autistic burnout
🎥 Videos on emotional regulation, featuring Autistic advocate Chloe Hayden
🌱 Resources on asynchronous development
❤️ My Positive Autistic Identity, a zine celebrating Autistic strengths

Not sure what some of these terms mean? That’s okay. We’ll be exploring them over the coming weeks, so follow along.

The resources were created with Autistic young people, families, occupational therapists and educators, and funded by the Victorian Department of Education.

We know phone calls aren't for everyone. We also know AI can seem like the easier, less intimidating option. We get it.

That's why our Autism Connect webchat is designed to be just as easy – but with real people giving you information specific to you and your situation, not a generic answer.

ARTD and their partners are looking at how Australia’s Disability Strategy is working on behalf of the Australian Government.

The Strategy started in 2021. It looks at important areas of life, like finding and keeping a job, having enough money and having a suitable place to live.

Governments want to know if the Strategy has made a difference in people’s lives since 2021.
You don’t need to know about the Strategy to share your thoughts.

People with disability, their families, carers and kin can share your thoughts by:
•share your experiences through an online form in a format you choose (text, audio, video or images) by 6 November 2026
• register your interest in a focus group by 12 October 2026.

To get involved and for more information, visit the evaluation website https://www.artd.com.au/clients/australias-disability-strategy-evaluation/

Harriet Shing MP's words in Parliament this week will have meant so much to Autistic people and families across Victoria. Hearing someone in leadership talk openly about overwhelm, needing adjustments, and the difference it makes to be understood is powerful.

Thank you, Harriet, for sharing your story and congratulations on your retirement.

Caring for someone with high support needs? Your experience belongs here too. 💓

Amaze's Lived Experience Network connects Autistic people and their families with consultation opportunities across government, research and media – built on one principle: nothing about us, without us. Your perspective doesn't just add to that conversation, it's often missing from it entirely.

If that's you, we'd love for you to join. Express your interest via the link in comments 👇
