When a baby, child or young person under the age of 26 is diagnosed with cancer, life-saving treatment starts immediately. This throws every aspect of family life into chaos and puts schooling, jobs, hobbies and family relationships at risk. Koala Kids purpose is to bring happy moments to children and young people during cancer treatment and alleviate the stress on their families and healthcare te

ams. Since 2005 Koala Kids has been providing relevant and meaningful programs and activities not offered by any other charities to families with children with cancer. We have received generous donations and in kind support from benefactors who believe in what we do such as Korjo, Suncorp and Provincial Home Living. Independent research in 2020* revealed that the families highly value what we offer. One of our respondents put it this way, “You bring joy to kids’ lives who are going through such a horrible illness. The little gifts can make a child’s treatment day easier to cope with and are a great distraction.”

179 meal hampers have been funded so far thanks to our generous community. With your help, we're so close to reaching even more families this financial year.

When a child is in cancer treatment, dinner doesn't happen by itself.

Often, it becomes one of the first everyday things to fall away between hospital visits, treatment, and extra time away from home.

This EOFY, $150 puts a meal hamper on a family's doorstep.

Three family-style meals, a dessert, all chosen by them.

Last year we delivered 287. This year, we want to reach more. 🧡

It’s quite possibly our favourite week of the year, National Volunteer Week 🧡🎉

As a volunteer-driven organisation we rely on the generous support of volunteers to help with everything from strategic planning, marketing and administration to packing cartons, making deliveries and volunteering in our hospital programs.

We are so incredibly lucky to have 100 of the best volunteers and we thank every single one of them.

Happy Mother's Day 🫶

To all the mums and mother figures caring for a child with cancer - we see you and we acknowledge your selfless dedication. We hope you enjoy some happy moments, not just today, but a little bit every day.

To celebrate Mother's Day, Koala Kids distributed 475 Air Dry Clay kits to hospitals across Victoria and Tasmania for children to create something special. We also opened our own Mother's Day Stall (virtual, of course!) for Happy Base families to select from a range of items that children could decorate for their mum or another special person.

Did you know that March was National Craft Month? To celebrate, Koala Kids hosted our annual Craft Competition with our Happy Base families! 🎨

Families were able to register to receive a craft pack for each of their children, with everything from pipe cleaners to pom poms and popsicle sticks. We also encourage children to get creative and use items they may already have around the house.

We love Craft Month because it brings families together and is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop their creativity and fine motor skills while also expanding their math and literacy abilities. Plus, it's just so much fun!

A big congratulations to all our amazing entrants 👏 We were blown away by your imaginative creations (some of which are featured here).

Happy Valentine's Day 💕

Valentine's Day is a special day to celebrate love and friendship, and what better way to do this than with a handmade gift!

This year, our volunteers distributed 300 Valentine's Day craft kits to children at home and a further 475 kits to children in hospitals across Victoria and Tasmania.

We were really excited to be a charity partner at the Foundation Caulfield Charity Family Day again 🧡 And how lucky were we that our assigned horse, Holymanz came third, resulting in a $5,000 donation which will go towards providing happy moments for children and young people during cancer treatment!

Along with the other 11 wonderful charity partners, Koala Kids will also receive a share of funds raised through ticket, raffle and silent auction sales.

Have a look at some of our incredibly talented Happy Base kids and their Christmas gingerbread house creations 😱 We certainly think there are a few future architects and designers amongst them!

Over the years our gingerbread house kits have fast become one of our most loved activities, providing families with the opportunity for some quality time, happy moments and fun memories 🧡

Thanks to our amazing donors, suppliers and volunteers, our office turned into Santa’s workshop in December to send out a record-breaking 304 gingerbread house kits!
