The Hush Foundation

The Hush Foundation Since 2000, we have been transforming the culture of healthcare through music and the arts.

Hush is a registered charity (DGR1) working to transform the culture of healthcare through the arts. Through the use of music, literature and the arts, Hush provides comfort and education to those both within the medical profession, and to those patients and families (hopefully), ‘just visiting’.

Safer care isn't only about systems, policies or procedures. It's also shaped by how we treat each other every day.

Listening with attention. Making space for different perspectives. Speaking up when something doesn't feel right. Repairing conversations when they go off course.

These small, human interactions help build the trust and communication that strong healthcare teams depend on.

Kindness isn't an extra in healthcare - it helps create the conditions for safer care.

Dignity in healthcare often lives in the smallest moments.

The way someone is greeted.
Whether we take the time to explain.
Whether questions are truly heard.
Whether a person feels involved in decisions about their own care.

These moments can seem simple, but when someone is vulnerable, they carry enormous weight.

At Hush, we believe kinder, safer care is built through communication that recognises the person first - their voice, their preferences, their concerns and what matters to them.

Swipe through these reflections and consider: what does dignity look like in the everyday moments of care?

Sometimes the way into a difficult conversation is through a story.

For Prof. Catherine Crock AM, stories help make complex healthcare issues feel real, human and immediate - creating space to look at familiar challenges from a different perspective.

That's at the heart of Hush Health Plays. Through real stories and facilitated discussion, they explore communication, patient safety, behaviour and the human experience of care - helping teams reflect on what's happening and what could change.

Belonging matters - in our workplaces, our communities and in the care we give and receive.

This Wear It Purple Day, we're standing with LGBTQIA+ young people and recognising the importance of creating spaces where people feel heard, respected and able to be themselves.

In healthcare, inclusion is part of safer, more human care. It can be found in the way we listen, the assumptions we challenge and the everyday choices we make to ensure everyone feels they belong.

💜 Today, and every day, let's stand with kindness, inclusion and respect.

A story can do more than capture attention. It can help us see what's happening in healthcare differently.

Hush Health Plays bring real experiences into the room through theatre - giving voice to patients, families, healthcare workers and leaders, then creating space for meaningful reflection and discussion.

Together, participants can explore the moments that shape care: how we communicate, how responsibility is shared, how culture influences behaviour and where practical change might begin.

Because sometimes, seeing a familiar situation from another perspective is what opens the door to a better conversation.

Waiting rooms can carry a lot of tension.

Worry, uncertainty, and long minutes that feel even longer.

Thoughtful sound can shift that experience. A calmer environment cannot remove stress completely, but it can make people feel more settled, more supported, and a little more held.

On Dying to Know Day, we're reminded of the importance of honest, kind conversations about death, dying, care preferences and what matters most.

At Hush, we believe more human care begins with listening - especially when the conversation isn't easy.

Today, we say thank you to the people who care with dignity. and kindness 💜

Aged care is shaped by thousands of everyday moments - taking the time to listen, offering reassurance, showing patience, respecting choice and helping someone feel seen and valued.

On Aged Care Employee Day, we recognise you and the difference you make every day.
