Last week, Aspen Medical Foundation Chair Sian Keys and Social Impact Manager Melissa Broers had the pleasure of meeting with Malpa Young Doctors’ new CEO, Tracey Thompson.

Tracey brings an impressive background in leadership, community engagement, sport and advocacy. A former Australian Jillaroos representative and captain of the inaugural Indigenous Women’s All Stars team, her career has been defined by service and impact, from her time as a Queensland Police Officer to leading initiatives that support First Nations communities through health, reconciliation and education.

We were delighted to hear about Tracey’s vision for Malpa and to receive a beautiful thank you gift, created by Kelly Hammant, from Solid Tracks recognising the Aspen Medical Foundation’s more than 14 years of support for Malpa’s important work.

We look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting healthier futures for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their communities.

💙 Honouring Legacy, Supporting Future Leaders 💙

Last week, Chair of the Aspen Medical Foundation, Sian Keys, together with board members Glenn and Amelda Keys, had the privilege of attending the 2026 Gallipoli Scholarship Award Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

Held following the moving Last Post Ceremony in the Commemorative Courtyard at the Pool of Reflection, the evening recognised outstanding young Australians carrying forward a legacy of service, leadership and community impact. The awards were presented by the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund Patron-in-Chief, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC.

The Aspen Medical Foundation is proud to announce a new partnership with the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund, expanding our commitment to supporting the next generation of First Nations and Pacific Islander health professionals.
Through this partnership, the Aspen Medical Foundation bursary will support students pursuing health-related qualifications, helping create meaningful pathways into healthcare careers and contributing to improved health equity in our communities.

We are honoured to congratulate the inaugural Aspen Medical Foundation supported Gallipoli Scholar, Jackson Coaby from Adelaide.

Jackson plans to undertake a Bachelor of Medical Studies / Doctor of Medicine at Adelaide University. Passionate about improving health outcomes within Indigenous communities and the broader Australian healthcare system, Jackson hopes to inspire future generations to prioritise health and wellbeing through education, prevention and culturally safe care.

Jackson also carries a remarkable family legacy of service. His ancestor, Matthew Garr, was born on Thursday Island and grew up at the Bathurst Mission in the Northern Territory. Matthew was one of four Indigenous brothers who enlisted in the AIF in 1915. He was tragically killed in Belgium in 1917 during WWI, while his brothers also served with distinction and bravery.

We are incredibly proud to support Jackson as he continues this legacy of courage, service and leadership through healthcare.

💙 Celebrating the 2026 Bullwinkel Scholar – Jazmyn Bambie 💙

Congratulations Jazmyn Bambie, the 2026 Vivian Bullwinkel Scholarship recipient and the Aspen Medical Foundation’s third scholar through this program.

Aspen Medical Foundation has been a founding supporter and funder of the Bullwinkel Scholars Program, honouring her legacy and the courage of the nurses she served alongside.

Aspen Medical proudly co-funded the Lt Col Vivian Bullwinkel statue at the Australian War Memorial, the first of a female at the AWM.

Through the Bullwinkel Scholarship, Jazmyn will undertake advanced training to reach her goal of becoming a Nurse Unit Manager.

We are honoured to support nurses like Jazmyn who continue the legacy of leadership, compassion and service that the Bullwinkel Scholarship represents.

Craig Fitzgerald, CEO of the Aspen Medical Foundation, and Aunty Pat Anderson AO, Board Member, attended Parliament House Canberra for the Parliamentary Friends of Ending Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD).

The evening featured a powerful preview of Take Heart: Songlines (2025), the third film in a documentary series shining a light on RHD, a preventable condition that continues to disproportionately affect First Nations communities.

Bringing together leaders including Matt Smith MP, Julian Leeser MP , Allegra Spender MP, NACCHO Aboriginal Health Australia and the RHD Alliance, the event reinforced a clear message: enough is enough, it’s time to end RHD in Australia.

The Aspen Medical Foundation is proud to supporter of Moonshine Agency’s Take Heart documentary series, including Take Heart: The Quest (2016), Take Heart: Deadly Heart (2022) and now Take Heart: Songlines (2025). The latest film focuses on the impact of RHD in remote communities across Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland, highlighting the devastating effect on First Nation children in Australia.

Craig Fitzgerald shared:
“It was a pleasure to attend, with Pat Anderson AO, last night’s launch at Parliament House, of the Parliamentary Friends Group for Ending Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD). Congratulations to The Snow Foundation whose leadership on this has brought together the key stakeholders. As was mentioned numerous times throughout the night, enough is enough, it's time to end RHD.”

We remain committed to supporting community-led solutions and national collaboration to eliminate RHD once and for all.
