Accessibility is more than a feature, it's the foundation.

We are proud to be featured in a recent case study by Para Mobility, highlighting how Somerville Community Services continues to support people with disability across the Northern Territory.

From Supported Independent Living and Specialist Disability Accommodation to Support Coordination, our focus remains the same: putting people at the centre of everything we do.

The story explores how accessible environments, innovative solutions, and strong partnerships can help create greater independence, improve wellbeing, and open up opportunities for people to participate fully in everyday life.

It also showcases the incredible work being done in our Katherine SDA homes, where accessibility, collaboration, and person-centred support come together to help participants achieve their goals and enjoy the things that matter most to them.

A special thank you to Territory Therapy Solutions, Charles Darwin University and Assistive Technology Lab for their support and expertise throughout this project. Partnerships like these help create meaningful outcomes and improve accessibility for the people we support.

We also thank Para Mobility for sharing our story and helping shine a light on the importance of accessible and inclusive living.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea at Somerville.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea such a wonderful success.

Across Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs, our participants and staff came together to share delicious treats, good conversation, and plenty of smiles, all while supporting an important cause.

We were especially proud to see participants get involved by baking cakes, slices, biscuits and other goodies to help raise funds for the Cancer Council. Their creativity, effort and generosity played a big part in making the events so special.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, baked, volunteered, and helped make the day such a success. 💙

This National Reconciliation Week, we join communities across Australia in recognising the importance of building respectful relationships and strengthening connections between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

At Somerville, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we live and work and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

We are committed to listening, learning, and walking together towards a more inclusive future where everyone feels valued, respected, and connected to community.

The 2026 National Reconciliation Week theme, "All In", reminds us that reconciliation is everyone's responsibility.

Music, community, and great Territory vibes at Bass in the Grass.

Some of our participants recently headed along to Bass in the Grass in Darwin and had an amazing time enjoying the live music, atmosphere, and excitement of one of the Territory’s biggest events.

From dancing along to favourite artists to soaking up the festival atmosphere with friends and support staff, the day was filled with fun, connection, and memorable moments.

Events like these are a fantastic opportunity for people to get out into the community, try new experiences, and enjoy everything the NT has to offer in an inclusive and supportive environment.

A big thank you to our wonderful staff who helped make the day possible and supported everyone to have such a positive experience. 💙

Every milestone deserves to be celebrated 💙

Roger has recently started preschool in NSW, a huge and exciting step in his journey.

Starting preschool is an important milestone for any child, and especially meaningful when navigating additional challenges and supports related to disability. We’re proud to work alongside Roger’s foster family and support network to help ensure he has access to the supports he needs to learn, grow, and thrive.

At Somerville, we know how important early supports, stability, and community are in helping children build confidence and reach their potential, and it’s wonderful to see Roger beginning this exciting new chapter.

We wish Roger all the very best as he continues to learn, grow, and shine. 💙

Connection, community, and plenty of smiles 💙

Our Katherine Family Fun Day was a beautiful opportunity for participants, staff, and families to come together, relax, and simply enjoy spending time with one another.

Whether it was meeting the animals at the petting zoo, joining in the games, singing karaoke, or sharing food and laughs together, the afternoon was filled with fun moments and great energy from everyone involved.

At Somerville, moments like these are about more than activities, they’re about creating inclusive spaces where people feel connected, supported, and part of a community.

A huge thank you to our amazing Katherine team and volunteers for helping bring the day together, and to everyone who attended and made it such a special event. 💙

At Somerville, we love celebrating the talents, creativity, and achievements of our participants.

One of our participants, Billy Tjampijinpa Kenda, is the artist behind the vibrant mural “All them Tourists goin’ to look at Countryside” featured on the riverside walls of the Alice Springs Public Library.

Billy is a Luritja/Pitjantjatjara man who grew up in Jay Creek, and his artwork reflects stories, landscapes, and everyday life connected to the Central Desert.

Billy has been painting with Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists since 2004, and his work continues to bring colour, culture, and storytelling to the community. The mural was officially launched in 2020 as part of International Day of People with Disability and celebrates the diversity of people who use and enjoy the library space.

We are incredibly proud to see Billy’s talent shared and recognised within the community. 💙🎨

The Somerville team was proud to be part of the Darwin Disability Expo.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with participants, families, carers, support providers, and the wider community from across the Northern Territory. We loved sharing information about our services, meeting so many wonderful people, and being part of an event that celebrates inclusion, connection, and community participation.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall to say hello and connect with our team throughout the day.

Recently, our CEO Natasha Fyles had the opportunity to visit some of our participants in their homes and spend time connecting with them, their families, and support teams. 💙

These visits are a valuable reminder of the importance of listening, building relationships, and understanding the individual experiences and goals of the people we support across the Northern Territory.

At Somerville, we are proud to provide participant-focused support that helps people live the life they want to live and moments like these highlight the strong sense of community at the heart of what we do.
