Our CEO, Rina Bruinsma, took to the plenary stage at the Northern Territory PHN's Compass Conference 2026 for her session: "Stranger things - interdimensional wormholes, emergencies and mental health."

For years, Rina spoke in her Commonwealth emergency management role about the importance of being prepared for disasters, physically and mentally. Then, as a new Dawin resident days out from Cyclone Fina, she found herself scouring near-empty shelves for a flashlight. The last one on the rack was a collectable Stranger Things torch, complete with a UV light for revealing secrets of the Upside Down.

That flashlight became the anchor for a powerful message: preparedness is as much about perspective as supplies, and being ready for climate-related disasters means being mentally ready, not just physically. Rina shared her journey from national emergency management to leading a community-based mental health organisation through the realities of recent cyclone and flood events here in the Top End.

Thank you to the NT PHN for having us, and for such an important conversation.

We love this one from the team at Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia NT for Mental Health Week 2026!

Colour Hunting NT is a gentle reminder that looking after your mind can be as simple as stepping outside and noticing what's around you. Pick a colour, go find it, snap four photos, wherever you are in the NT.

Have a read below for how to enter (open until Monday 28 September), and show us your corner of the NT.

Pick one colour. Go and find it. Take four photos of it, wherever you are in the Territory.

That is the whole idea behind Colour Hunting NT, our photo competition for Mental Health Week 2026. Slowing down to notice the colour around you is a simple way to give your mind a rest, and it works whether you are in Darwin, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek or anywhere in between.

Entries are open now until Monday 28 September. Enter at https://bit.ly/4guJ2pF or scan the QR code on the flyer.

No smartphone? Email your four photos to [email protected] and we will help you to enter in the competition.

We would love to see your corner of the Territory.

Yesterday, TeamHEALTH attended 's Insights-to-Industry event. An evening connecting students with careers in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy and Mental Health.

We're proud to partner with Charles Darwin University in supporting Social Work (and related qualifications) student placements. We can't wait to welcome the next cohort of Bachelor and Master of Social Work students to TeamHEALTH next week for their placements!

Getting to talk with students at our stall about a career in community mental health and wellbeing was a genuine highlight. Supporting the development of our sector's workforce matters to us, and there's no better way than opening our doors to the next generation coming through.

A big thank you to our panel members: Pieter Walker (TeamHEALTH Board Member), Hannah Moran, and Ira Racines (Communications & Engagement Officer NT Mental Health Coalition) for sharing their experiences and their endorsement of working with TeamHEALTH.
