It was wonderful to welcome Angelica Panopoulos to CIS Merri-bek to discuss the work that we do supporting the local community.

I recently caught up with Claire from CIS Merri-bek - the Merri-bek branch of Community Information and Support Victoria.

I first visited when I ran for Pascoe Vale in 2022, and the demand for support was high then. It is even higher now.

More people than every before need help with emergency relief, education support, paying bills, and advice on how to connect with other services.

With the cost of living increasing, and the systemic hollowing out of support services over many years (including Labor privatising and demolishing public housing!!), there is more strain on community support providers.

It doesn't have to be this way though.

The Greens are running on a platform of free dental, rent caps, doubling public housing & opening up publicly owned supermarkets, which would help ease the pressure on local social support services.

And we'll pay for it by making the top end of town pay their fair share.

We are deeply saddened at the passing of MP Tim Read. A passionate advocate for his community and a great friend of CIS Merri-bek and supporter of the work that we do.

Vale Tim Read.

Greens MP Tim Read died on Saturday, aged 64, surrounded by loved ones, from metastatic cancer.

He was a campaigner on issues such as climate change, over-incarceration, deaths in custody of Indigenous Victorians and bike safety.

For anyone coming to our office for an appointment, please be mindful of the current works happening on Sydney Road and allow a little extra time for your journey to our office.

Sydney Road is now open and Route 19 tram services have resumed.

Thank you to passengers, local businesses, residents and road users for your patience while we completed these important works.

Works will continue in the Cameron Street area and on Moreland Road as part of the Brunswick Tram Depot Upgrade, helping support larger trams and a more reliable tram network.
