More congrats to Dr. Ken Wishaw, and the Sunshine Coast Council and state agencies that brought the Sunshine Coast International Dark Sky Reserve to fruition. Years of effort to protect our future. Are other local governments listening to their residents?

Massive congratulations to Sunshine Coast Council, and BAS committee member, Dr. Ken Wishaw, for the announcement today of an internationally recognized Dark Sky Reserve in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. A major achievement to help preserve our star-filled sky for future generations and protection of our natural environment:

Sunshine Coast hinterland communities treasure star-filled skies. Now, as Queensland’s first Dark Sky Reserve, everyone can help protect dark skies for future generations, as well as for wildlife, lower energy costs, lower emissions and hinterland businesses.

Public Stargazing Update.

We are still hopeful of running a public stargazing night on Saturday 23rd May.
Weather is a 50;50 bet at this stage and we will wait till Monday night to make a decision.
We will announce this on Tuesday and give details where to get tickets which will come on line Tuesday evening.
As per previous posts tickets will be $5 per person, $10 per family.
Refunds will be a logistic nightmare, so once you have bought a ticket, if you change your mind, consider it a donation.

BAS members are free and can come as many times as they like to public and member only events. https://bas.asn.au/

If we are going ahead we will be there unless it is raining or thunderstorm. In that case your tickets will be transferred to the next public stargazing night.

Mid week is looking very good and hopefully will carry through.
Consider going for a peek next week in the mid valley and see the dark Emu rising.

Regards
Ken
