🚨 A proposed law would absolutely gut the ability of landholders and communities to protect their property and local environments from mining projects. QCC and Lock The Gate Alliance will be outside Parliament House during the Bill's public hearing to stand up for farmers, regional Queenslanders, First Nations, and community groups against the interests of billion-dollar mining companies.

The time for a federal decision on the Springfield Residential Development, EPBC 2019/8575, has been extended to 16 October 2026.

Woogaroo Forest is home to more than koalas. Powerful owls need its old trees. Gliders move through its canopy. Flying-foxes feed on its flowering trees. Frogs, platypus and other wildlife depend on its waterways. These lives are connected across the forest.

People are connected to it too. For local families, Woogaroo is a familiar part of home: a place to notice wildlife, experience nature, teach children about the world around them and find a little breathing room as the suburbs grow.

After A Current Affair shared this story with Australia, more people understand what our community stands to lose. The extension gives us time to make sure those voices are heard.

Heatwaves kill more Australians than natural disasters. Crystal Falknau from North Queensland Conservation Council (NQCC) told ABC News that's why a group of organisations, including hers, have petitioned the state government to include heat as a natural hazard in future planning policies.

The State Planning Policy is currently being reviewed, and submissions close on 26th October. Heat only gets a mention once, and that's not enough. Make your own submission asking for the government and developers to take heat hazards seriously, via the link in our bio

🙌 Good news: a community group has won a landmark high court climate change case, setting precedent for rejecting future projects based on emissions!

The Denman Aberdeen Muswellbrook Scone Healthy Environment Group Inc - DAMS HEG, in NSW's Hunter Valley, brought the original case. They say "the high court has said what we have always known: we cannot dig up coal, ship it overseas, watch it drive climate change, and then pretend the consequences have nothing to do with us and won’t be felt by us."

The high court found that planning authorities were legally required to consider how to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions generated when coal from the Mount Pleasant mine is sold and burnt overseas, and failed to do so.

Buffel grass is transforming landscapes, increasing the intensity of wildfires, threatening biodiversity and placing growing pressure on the places, plants, animals and communities across Queensland and much of Australia.

Join the Arid Lands Environment Centre and other experts from across the country for the launch of a new report examining the impacts of buffel grass, and what needs to change.

The Federal Government doesn't spend enough to safeguard our wildlife, forests, rivers and reefs. If they invested just 1% of the budget in nature, it could turn the tide for threatened species and vital ecosystems.
