Here's how you can take 2 minutes to help Save Woogaroo Forest - Ipswich QLD and protect the koalas that call it home, before it's too late:

URGENT: Have you called Minister Murray Watt? Time is running out and we need to keep the pressure up.

πŸ“ž Call Murray Watt's Ministerial office: (02) 6277 7920

Right now, Environment Minister Murray Watt is weighing a decision that will determine the fate of Woogaroo Forest - 450 hectares of irreplaceable native habitat, home to koalas and countless other species found nowhere else.

It's happening now, under the EPBC Act, and we've been given September 3rd as the potential day the decision will land.

It's easier than you think. You don't need a script. Keep it brief, keep it respectful, and just say what you feel. Need a hand getting started? We've put together some simple talking points here: πŸ‘‰ www.savewoogarooforest.com.au/action
πŸ“ž Call Murray Watt's Ministerial office: (02) 6277 7920
πŸ“§ [email protected] & [email protected]

πŸ“‹ What to mention:
You're calling about EPBC referral 2019/8575 – Springview Village 2 & 3 - this is the exact development Minister Watt is making his determination on right now.

Why Woogaroo Forest matters to you, in your own words.
If they suggest you email instead, simply let them know you'd like to be heard by phone and then you can send an email after.

Don't let your discomfort get in the way of contacting the Minister. Extinction is forever. Let your voice be heard before it's too late.

Shout out to the incredible Wide Bay Burnett Environment Council Inc and Queensland Glider Network for this wonderful event on Saturday!

This weekend we held the first two workshops of our Hollows, Gliders and Urban Corridors project, with community members coming together to learn about gliders, hollow-bearing trees and wildlife survey techniques, in Maryborough and Glenwood.

The Saturday survey produced some wonderful wildlife encounters, including:

πŸ¦‰ A pair of Barn Owls
πŸ¦‰ Tawny Frogmouth
πŸ¦” Echidna
πŸ¦‡ Microbats
πŸ¦‡ Flying Foxes
🐾 Brushtail Possum
✨ And, right at the end of the night, a Squirrel Glider!

And on Sunday the group had a yellow-bellied glider!

One of the great outcomes from both evenings was seeing participants begin to build the skills needed to contribute to future glider surveys across the Fraser Coast.

These first workshops brought together a fantastic mix of community members, local conservation volunteers, researchers and project partners. We'd like to thank Wildlife Queensland's Glider Network for delivering the training, Riverbend Nature Connections for ecological support, and the Glenwood Wildlife Awareness Group for their assistance with the Glenwood workshop. It was also wonderful to have attendees from the University of the Sunshine Coast join us and contribute to the discussions

πŸ“· Special thanks to Maddie Stokes for capturing this wonderful photo of the Squirrel Glider observed during the Saturday survey.

We can't wait to see what the rest of the project reveals!

Backlash to the Queensland Government's far-reaching State Development Bill is spreading, with a huge range of organisations and individuals speaking up against it.

When Agforce, Cotton Australia, the Queensland Farmers Federation, the Environmental Defenders Office, Lock the Gate Queensland, Property Rights Australia, the Queensland Law Society, conservationists, and a federal LNP MP all agree that an idea is terrible, you should listen and take action.

It's no surprise that the more people hear about this Bill, the more they hate it. It dramatically broadens the ability of the State Government to seize private property, bypass environmental assessments and even other laws to track developments of any project hand-picked by the Minister of the day.

Right now, the Queensland Government is sticking with its plan to pass the controversial Bill with no amendments, but there's a short window of opportunity to get them to change their mind πŸ‘‡

Even a federal LNP MP has joined the "furious backlash" against the State Development Bill! After farmers and conservationists rallied outside parliament on Friday, MP for Flynn Colin Boyce warned the new laws would give the Qld government extraordinary powers to "trample" on the rights of landholders.

Maggie McKeown from Lock the Gate Queensland told The Australian: β€œWe’re terrified this bill would fast-track the greenlighting of projects that would have huge impacts on water, resources and farmers.”

πŸŽ“ Our very own Nicky Moffat traded the campaign trail for the lecture hall this week, speaking to sustainability students at the University of Queensland's School of the Environment!

Nicky shared the wins for nature we've achieved by teaming up with our conservation, tourism, outdoors and First Nations allies - proof that collaboration gets results. 🌏

"It was so fun, I feel like I have 50 new friends! Many students are keen to collaborate with us on everything from fundraising to beach clean-ups and shark conservation. It's fabulous to feel their energy and hope for Queensland's unique and threatened species. I've no doubt they're the leaders of tomorrow." πŸ’š

The future of conservation is in good hands. 🐒🦈🌳

Today, dozens rallied at Parliament House to deliver an open letter from hundreds of farmers and regional Queenslanders against a controversial Bill which would ride roughshod over communities, landholders and the environment to fast track developments.

Hours later, a committee report was released recommending the Bill be passed with no changes.

This is a cruel joke against more than a thousand farmers, landholders and conservationists who've spoken up about this Bill and its far-reaching powers.

Find out more about this Bill and its impacts here: https://www.queenslandconservation.org.au/controversial_development_bill_gets_committee_greenlight

And a big thank you to Lock The Gate Alliance for making this action happen (especially the giant cow).

Scrap the State Development Bill and try again, to protect communities and nature: that's QCC's message to the Queensland Government today.

We're proud to stand with farmers, First Nations groups, land-holders, conservationists, Lock the Gate Queensland, and other everyday Queenslanders to say this proposed Bill sets a dangerous precedent and should be rejected.

Here's why 90% of public submissions opposed the Government's proposed State Development Bill... It would fast-track developments by:
πŸ‘Ž giving companies more rights to seize private land,
πŸ‘Ž modifying how existing laws apply,
πŸ‘Ž skipping environmental assessments, and
πŸ‘Ž reducing community consultations

No wonder Traditional Owners, farmers, regional communities, conservation experts, and everyday Queenslanders are pushing back. Join us and Lock the Gate Queensland tomorrow and tell parliament to reject this dangerous Bill: https://loom.ly/X6bcpaw

Great news: The City of Gold Coast Council has stopped spending ratepayer funds on how to put a cableway to Springbrook National Park! Thank you to the Councillors who voted to halt funding of investigations to benefit a commercial proponent, and especially to Councillor Glenn TOZER for Mudgeeraba & Hinterland (Division 9) for his passionate defence of Springbrook National Park πŸ’š

As a member of the Respect Springbrook Mountain Coalition, we welcome the Council's decision and remind any other interested parties that World Heritage and federal environmental protections continue to make this project unachievable.

Read more about this win for Springbrook, and send a message to thank the Councillors responsible: https://loom.ly/Eou-RDs
