Another week goes by and there are still many aged care residents across Australia with no family or friends to visit them.

Imagine spending most of your days alone, with only the occasional knock at the door from someone asking what you would like for lunch. No dedicated one on one time. No meaningful conversation. No friendly face dropping by just to see how you are.

For many older Australians, this is their reality.

The good news is that you can help change that.

By volunteering just one hour a fortnight through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, you can provide friendship, companionship and connection to someone who may otherwise experience loneliness and social isolation.

You do not need any special skills or experience. All you need to do is be a friend.

💜 Volunteer Visitors Needed 💜

Could you spare an hour a fortnight to make a real difference in someone's life?

Queensland Community Care Network is seeking caring and compassionate volunteers to become Volunteer Visitors for older people living in aged care homes or receiving aged care services in the community.

Many older Australians experience loneliness and social isolation. A friendly chat, a shared hobby, a game of cards, a walk around the garden, or simply spending time together can brighten someone's day and create a meaningful friendship.

As a Volunteer Visitor, you can:

💜 Reduce loneliness and social isolation.
💜 Build genuine friendships.
💜 Share stories, interests and laughter.
💜 Make a lasting difference in your local community.
💜 Volunteer at times that suit your schedule.

No special skills are required, just a kind heart, a listening ear and a willingness to connect with an older person.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a Volunteer Visitor, we'd love to hear from you. Please send us a message today!

🌟 Volunteer Visitors Needed in Bray Park 🌟

Make a real difference through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, a government funded program supporting older Australians who may be socially isolated.

We have a number of residents at a local aged care home in Bray Park who would really benefit from a friendly visitor.

If you have just one hour a fortnight to spare and enjoy a chat, this is a meaningful way to give back to your community.

We currently have a range of volunteer opportunities available, including:

• A male resident who enjoys talking about spirituality, near death experiences and the mysteries of life
• A male resident who loves a good coffee and a chat
• A female resident living with dementia who would enjoy a walking companion. This role would suit someone studying psychology or nursing
• Female residents who would love some company, a chat or a board game

And many more.

If you have been thinking about how you can contribute to your local community, we would love to hear from you.

There’s nothing quite as Australian as an ANZAC biscuit.

For many families, the recipe has been passed down through generations. Golden, oaty and full of history, these biscuits are more than a sweet treat. They are a connection to the past.

But have you ever wondered how they became such a national icon?

Long before World War I, similar recipes were already enjoyed in Australia, inspired by Scottish traditions. During the war, these biscuits took on new meaning. Baked by women across the country and sent overseas in care packages, they were designed to last long sea journeys without spoiling. Without eggs and made from simple pantry staples, they could travel for months and still arrive ready to eat.

They were first known as Soldiers’ Biscuits, and after the Gallipoli landing in 1915, they became what we now know as ANZAC biscuits.

Behind each batch was care, ingenuity and a deep concern for loved ones far from home. Groups like the Country Women’s Association, schools and community organisations spent countless hours baking and packing them into tins to keep them fresh on the journey.

Today, ANZAC biscuits are still baked, shared and even used to raise funds for veterans. A small tradition that continues to carry a big story.

Do you have a family recipe or a memory tied to ANZAC biscuits?

We would love to hear your stories.

Lest we forget.

What if one hour of your time could change someone else’s entire life?

At Queensland Community Care Network, our Volunteer Visitors do just that.

A simple visit.
A shared story.
A moment of genuine companionship.

For older people experiencing loneliness, this can mean having something to look forward to again.

And for our volunteers, it often becomes just as meaningful.

New friendships.
A sense of purpose.
Knowing you are making a real difference in someone’s life.

You don’t need special skills. Just kindness, reliability, and a willingness to spend time with someone who needs it.

If you have been thinking about volunteering, this might be your sign.

Would you give one hour?
