Understanding the Crime Statistics – Why Our Work Matters
The Rise Up Movement The latest crime figures remind us that Gender-Based Violence, sexual offences, assault, kidnapping and human trafficking are not just numbers on a page. Behind every number is a person, a family and a community affected.
These statistics show us why awareness and education are so important. When people understand the warning signs, know their rights and know where to get help, they are better able to protect themselves and others.
The Rise Up Movement NPO continues to make a difference through its awareness campaigns and post-victim support within the Umhlali Precinct and iLembe District.
Our work focuses on Gender-Based Violence, Human Trafficking and Child Protection, while supporting victims and survivors with information, guidance, referrals and practical assistance.
We must remember: reporting a crime is only the beginning. Supporting the victim afterwards is equally important. Victims and survivors need to feel heard, respected, protected and supported as they work towards rebuilding their lives.
The statistics are a call to all of us parents, schools, communities, businesses, law enforcement and organisations to work together.
Education creates awareness. Awareness can prevent harm. Support restores dignity. And together, we can help build a safer community.
