Happy Sunday, here is everything happening at Bookmarks this week!

MONDAY- June's selection is a free read! Join us at Bookmarks to talk about books you've enjoyed recently (or not enjoyed!) and share book recommendations with other readers.

RSVP if you plan to attend. To be added to the mailing list and be reminded of upcoming meets, email [email protected].

TUESDAY- Join us at the bookstore on June 2 for the Macmillan Edition of our Publisher Takeover night. Our Macmillan sales rep will share a select list of titles (both newer releases and backlist) that deserve readers' attention. Then author Amin Ahmad will share more about his book A Killer in the Family in a conversation with Jamie Rogers Southern, Bookmarks' Executive Director.

Tickets are $15 (plus taxes & fees) and include:

Admission for one person
Light refreshments
A tote bag & ARCs, courtesy of Macmillan
20% discount on featured Macmillan titles
An opportunity to meet Amin Ahmad in the signing line.

SATURDAY- Join us for a storytime featuring author Chrystal D. Giles reading her latest picture book, We Are Joy! Kids and families are invited to help us celebrate the joy found in culture and community with a reading and themed activities.

Registration is free; attendees can pre-purchase a copy of We Are Joy with their registration. Copies of the featured book as well as Chrystal D. Giles' previous books will be for sale at the event.

We're excited to share the first round of Festival author announcements with you! It's simply too hard (and no fun!) to keep all of these a secret. Enjoy this sneak peak and stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks. These authors will be appearing at the Bookmarks Festival on September 26, 2026 as part of our free programming.

While all sessions on Saturday the 26th are free to attend, some authors will have book purchase requirements to enter their signing lines. These restrictions will be listed on the Festival webpage and mobile site. For example, readers must purchase Ayad Akhtar's new book The Radiance from Bookmarks in order to enter his signing line.

Has your child ever wondered what it would be like to be a bookseller? Join Bookmarks for our first-ever Junior Bookseller Academy!

July 27-31, your child could join our program to earn their Junior Bookseller badge. Twenty kids will be selected for our first cohort and applications are open until May 27.

Only open to completed 3rd-5th graders (sorry adults!). If interested, please complete the google form making sure the questions are answered by your child.

Happy release day to Sarah Nicole Lemon's debut fantasy novel A DARK AND WILD WOOD!

Perfect for fans of Roshani Chokshi and Ava Reid, this Bluebeard-inspired tale follows a maiden who becomes Lord Death's apprentice.

We are lucky to count Sarah Nicole Lemon among the many talented authors in our area, and we look forward to the day we can celebrate her latest achievement at the bookstore. For now, be sure to check out the book at bookmarksnc.org or ask a bookseller about it the next time you stop by.
