Article about our appeal of the Davie County zoning decision. Tonight, Duke Energy's request to rezone 1,600+ acres on the River in Davidson County is on the Planning Board agenda. Meeting starts at 6 pm in the County Commissioners meeting room. We need a big turnout to nip this in the bud.

On behalf of Yadkin Riverkeeper and Appalachian Voices, the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) has filed an appeal of a Davie County zoning decision that would allow Duke Energy's proposed Davie-Davidson Energy Complex to move forward without a local public hearing or rezoning.

The Yadkin River serves as the drinking water for over 1 million people. Each person, no matter the age/color/economic status, is made of approximately 70% water. It is not controversial to keep the river clean.

Due to the potential for severe weather from Hurricane Isaias, Yadkin Riverkeeper has made the difficult decision to cancel Yadktober Fest, which was scheduled for this Sunday, October 11.

We are incredibly disappointed that we won’t be able to gather with our community, but we feel this is the best decision for the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

🚣Great Trails State Day Paddle 2026
📆Saturday, October 17, 2026 (9:00 AM - 2:00 PM)

In celebration of North Carolina trails, we will paddle on the Yadkin River State Trail and enjoy the fall colors. This year we are going to put in at Ronda and take out at Crater Park in Elkin. We'll meet around 9 and be done around 2. This portion of the river passes through some steep slopes and rocky banks. Hopefully we'll hit it when the leaves are on full display!
