This week, we're excited to introduce Kourtney Hewson - Mydlowski , one of our outstanding Summer Legal Interns!

Kourtney joins Children's Law Center from Elon University School of Law, where she is entering her third year. Originally from , Florida, she earned her undergraduate degree from Wesleyan College - First For Women before pursuing her passion for child advocacy and the law.

Throughout the summer, Kourtney has been working alongside our attorneys on active cases involving high-conflict custody disputes and domestic violence, gaining hands-on experience while helping ensure children's voices are heard.

Here's what she had to say about her experience at CLC:

"I chose to intern with the Children's Law Center to gain hands-on experience in advocacy work, as well to contribute to their mission of giving children a voice in the legal system. While the legal work is incredibly impactful, what has defined my experience thus far is the culture. Everyone here has been so kind, patient, and welcoming, making it an ideal environment to learn, grow, and contribute in a meaningful way."

Thank you, Kourtney, for your passion, dedication, and commitment to serving children and families. We're grateful to have you on our team this summer!

It looks like sitting at the kitchen table listening before speaking.

It looks like meeting children where they are - in their homes, schools, and communities.

It looks like building trust, asking hard questions, and making sure every child's voice is heard.

It looks like standing beside children during some of the most difficult moments of their lives and helping the court understand what they need to be safe, supported, and able to thrive.

At Children's Law Center, advocacy isn't just what we do, it's who we are.

Every day, our attorneys work with children and families involved in high-conflict custody disputes and domestic violence cases, ensuring that children's best interests remain at the center of every decision.

Because every child deserves someone who will speak up for them.

In our Custody Advocacy Program, we are appointed by judges to advocate for children, not either parent, in high-conflict custody and domestic violence cases.

Our attorneys spend time getting to know each child by:
🏑 Visiting homes
🏫 Visiting schools
🀝 Meeting with parents, teachers, counselors, and caregivers
πŸ‘‚ Listening to the people who know each child best

The goal is simple: help the court understand what is truly in that child's best interest.

Every child deserves to be heard.
Every child deserves an advocate.
