Happy Friday everyone!

I just learned about a special event happening today from 4–6 PM at the International Civil Rights Center & Museum (134 S. Elm St., Greensboro).

Bennett College has launched a First Friday Film Event, and today’s program highlights an important chapter of Greensboro’s film and civil rights history.

The first presentation explores the Greensboro Movie Boycott of 1938 — a powerful act of cultural resistance led by members of the Black community, including students from Bennett College. At the time, Jim Crow censorship and segregation limited how Black people were portrayed in film and entertainment.

The second presentation will focus on the groundbreaking story behind North Carolina’s first motion picture featuring an all-Black cast, produced in 1948.

What a great way to learn more about Greensboro's civil rights movement and NC's history in film!

Learn the story of the Greensboro Movie Boycott of 1938 and North Carolina’s first all-Black cast film during a First Friday double feature event at the International Civil Rights Center & Museum in Greensboro.

One of many cool sites across the Piedmont Triad that I love! The Dairy Center is in Mt. Airy - home of Andy Griffith.

The small town of Mount Airy is home to the “Dairy Center,” one of the area’s favorite old-time drive-ins. Dairy Center has been serving simple, made-to-order food for decades. They hand-pat their burgers fresh, grill classic hot dogs, and serve the well-known Surry County ground steak sandwich, cooked hot and ready when you order. Their banana pudding ice cream is a local favorite, along with thick sundaes and big banana splits piled high with toppings. Inside, there are only six booths, giving it a tight, cozy feel. The place is filled with 1950s-style touches and walls covered in old photos and local keepsakes. The staff works fast and treats customers like family, often calling regulars by name. It’s cash-only, can get loud during busy hours, and feels like a true step back in time, with good food and sweet tea that keep people coming back.
