🌍💚 **October 10 is World Mental Health Day.**

This year’s theme, “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change,” is a powerful reminder that meaningful mental health care begins with listening—not simply *to* the people we serve, but *with* them.

At the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (ISPN), we recognize the vital role psychiatric-mental health nurses play in transforming those voices into action. Through education, advocacy, evidence-based practice, collaboration, and compassionate person-centered care, psychiatric nurses are helping reduce stigma, improve access, and advance mental health care across communities and around the world.

Today, we recommit to **listening to lived experiences, educating to increase understanding, collaborating with individuals and communities, and advocating for equitable and accessible mental health care.**

Because real voices deserve to be heard—and when we listen, **real change is possible.** 💚🌎

🌍💚 World Mental Health Day is almost here! 💚🌍

Ahead of October 10, 2026, Dr. Adekemi Shodunke (ISPN Marketing & Communication Chair) and Dr. Dan Wesemann (ISPN Past President) sat down for an inspiring conversation on what this day represents for the psychiatric nursing community worldwide.

Together, they reflect on:
💡 What World Mental Health Day means to them as clinicians, educators, and leaders.
💡 How ISPN serves as a home for psychiatric-mental health nurses—fostering community, innovation, and advocacy across borders.
💡 The powerful impact nurses have on breaking stigmas and advancing mental healthcare globally.

Press play to hear their thoughts, and let us know in the comments: How are you honoring World Mental Health Day this year? 👇

🧠 October is ADHD Awareness Month.

ADHD is more than difficulty with focus—it is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that can affect individuals across the lifespan. Greater awareness means earlier recognition, less stigma, better access to evidence-based treatment, and more compassionate care.

At ISPN, we recognize the critical role psychiatric-mental health nurses play in ADHD assessment, education, treatment, advocacy, and ongoing support. Through professional education, collaboration, and the advancement of evidence-based psychiatric nursing practice, we are committed to equipping nurses with the knowledge and resources needed to better understand and support individuals living with ADHD.

This month, we encourage our psychiatric nursing community to continue the conversation: educate, advocate, challenge misconceptions, and listen to the lived experiences of those we serve.

Because awareness should lead to understanding—and understanding should lead to better care. 💚🧠

🏗️ Building on Progress

Construction Su***de Prevention Week may have ended, but the conversation must continue.

The 2026 theme, “Building on Progress,” recognizes encouraging movement: recent U.S. data show the su***de rate among construction workers ages 16–64 declined from 43.2 to 41.9 per 100,000 workers from 2023 to 2024. Yet construction workers continue to experience disproportionately high su***de risk—a concern recognized internationally.

As psychiatric-mental health nurses, su***de prevention extends beyond clinical settings. Reducing stigma, recognizing risk, and strengthening pathways to support matter in every workplace.

The numbers are moving in the right direction. Our work is not finished. Let’s keep building on progress. 🧠💚

In the U.S.: Call or text 988 for 24/7 crisis support. Outside the U.S.: Contact your local crisis or emergency service.
