Since 2016, Focused Interruption has helped over 500 victims of gun violence in the Madison area by providing support, guidance, and assistance to the victims and their families. By refocusing these individuals, we empower them to see their value in our community. This Saturday, come out to Penn Park for a free community BBQ!

Focused Interruption is hosting a Community BBQ on Saturday, May 30 from 11 AM to 2 PM at Penn Park, 2101 Fisher St in Madison. Free BBQ meal, face painting by Classic Creations, inflatables from MSCR Play On The Move, and more. The Madison Fire Department, Madison Police Department, Luna's Market, Momma Megs Ice Cream, and Madison for More Neighbors will all be on site.

Good food. Great people. Stronger community.

Memorial Day Weekend is three days away and we still have shifts to fill!

Focused Interruption is an official charity partner at Brat Fest 2026 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

Every hour we show up together converts to $12 for community safety in Madison. We need a minimum of 20 total volunteer hours to receive our donation, so every shift counts.

Shifts run May 22 to 24, are first come, first served, and open to anyone 14 and older. Every volunteer gets a free brat, Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, and a t-shirt.

Wednesday, May 13 at 5:30 PM, come run, walk, or roll with us!

Focused Interruption is the featured nonprofit at the Fontana Sports $5 5K in Madison. Show up at 216 Henry St., make a $5 donation, and head out on the route at whatever pace works for you. Every dollar goes directly to our community violence intervention work.

Shifts run May 22 to 24, range from 2.5 to 4.5 hours, and are first come, first served. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. You also get a t-shirt, free ice cream, and festival access before or after your shift.

Sometimes showing up means serving lunch.

On Monday, our team stepped in to prepare and serve a meal for 18 seniors when the center faced a staffing gap. No disruption. Just community taking care of community.

66 kids. Two neighborhoods. One week.

This past week, our team brought Easter egg hunts to Harmony and Meadowlands Apartments, and the community showed up.

Pizza, juice, 150 filled eggs, and a lot of joy. More kids than we planned for, which is exactly the kind of problem we are happy to solve.

This is what community violence intervention looks like before anything goes wrong. Showing up consistently. Building trust. Making sure families in these neighborhoods know we are here.

Last week, our team showed up at West High School for the 3rd Annual Equity Symposium and the conversation mattered.

Tiffany and Richard led students through a session on Respect Over Retaliation, using music, reflection, and real talk to help 38 young people think differently about conflict, identity, and the choices that shape their futures.

Creating space for student voice — even when it's quiet — is part of the work. Community safety starts long before a trigger is pulled. It starts in a classroom, with the right adult in the room.

Grateful for the collaboration with Madison Metropolitan School District, Urban Triage, and the community partners who showed up alongside us.
