World Refugee Day is a time to honor the courage, resilience, and contributions of people forced to flee their homes.

As our country approaches its 250th anniversary, we have an opportunity to reflect on the ideals we celebrate and the responsibilities they place before us. Among the most enduring symbols of those ideals is the Statue of Liberty, where the words of The New Colossus call us to a powerful vision of welcome: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

Refugees deserve protection, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives in safety.

At Wisconsin Literacy, we know that language and literacy are part of welcome. They help people access work, school, community, and the power to advocate for themselves and their families.

Today, and every day, we stand with and support refugees and the communities working to welcome them.

During National Dairy Month, we recognize the workers who help keep Wisconsin’s dairy industry moving. Adult literacy and English language programs help workers build skills, confidence, and opportunity on the job and beyond.

Wisconsin Literacy’s Regional Literacy Consultants recently brought members together across the state for regional meetings focused on connection, collaboration, and practical resources for adult education programs.

These gatherings gave local literacy leaders time to share successes and challenges, discuss community and workforce partnerships, explore resources for adult learners, and learn more about supporting learners with dyslexia and other learning differences.

Thank you to our RLCs, presenters, partners, and member agencies for making these meetings meaningful. The conversations and connections built at the regional level strengthen adult literacy work across Wisconsin.
