Farm to School Aid: everything you need to know!

When? Saturday September 12th, 2:00-7:30pm.
Where? Located at Troy Farm, a working urban farm in Madison with community gardens and a kids’ garden.
Why? Rooted is the only organization providing school garden education at Madison Metropolitan School District schools so that we can meet kids where they are--at school! Funds raised at this event help us provide a discount for schools that need financial assistance.
What? Farm to School Aid is a family-friendly music festival fundraiser. The event features local bands, local food trucks, and kids’ activities. Come enjoy community, free live music, and the gardens in full bloom--all in celebration of accessible garden-based education for kids across Madison.

Our Troy Kids' Garden Manager, Laura Bettenhausen, reflects on the summer for our August Rooted Newsletter:

"As August rolls around once again, I am met with just how quickly every season seems to pass by, and summer (especially July) goes by quicker than most. My work at both the Troy Kids’ Garden and Madison School Farm means I’ve interacted with over 500 kids in the past month, which can be quite overwhelming, but also means I’ve gotten to share my love for growing and cooking food with a multitude of young people! Four groups a day at Troy feels like a whirlwind, but within that rush come slower moments, full of wonder and joy. It is moments like these, from watching kids notice how bright and delightfully fluffy our marigolds have gotten, to seeing them excitedly holding a chicken for the first time, that remind me why I do what I do."
