At our South Street Toastmasters hybrid meeting earlier this month, our newest members participated in the meeting agenda.

Ken Detz presented an Ice Breaker speech, one of the first projects in the Presentation Mastery path. Ken delivered a heartfelt speech that he recently gave at his daughter and son-in-law’s wedding.

Marianna Rutkowski did an excellent job presenting Table Topics. This activity gives attendees an opportunity to respond impromptu for one to two minutes to a question or topic.

Congratulations to Ken and Marianna, our newest members, on their participation and successful contributions to the meeting! Our president, Susan Mennella, and Treasurer Mary-Jo Solomon presented certificates to them.

Our next meeting is tomorrow, August 27, 2026, via Zoom from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

If you think you may be interested in overcoming speaking anxiety, please check out our club, South Street Toastmasters. Our club is a friendly and supportive environment and we meet twice a month on the second and fourth Thursdays from 12:00 PM EST for one hour. We meet at the Morris County Library, 30 Hanover Avenue, Whippany, New Jersey.

The second Thursday of the month is a hybrid where we meet in person and via Zoom. The fourth Thursday is Zoom only. If interested in joining us, please email [email protected].

You are welcomed to visit a few times to see if our club works for you and your schedule.

🎉 Congratulations to Mary-Jo Solomon, DTM! 🎉

On behalf of the South Street Toastmasters Club, congratulations to Mary-Jo Solomon on earning her Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) designation. This is the highest educational achievement awarded by Toastmasters International.

Mary-Jo's dedication to our club is evident through her service in numerous leadership roles, including Past President, her outstanding mentorship of new members, and her unwavering commitment to helping our club succeed. Her leadership, encouragement, and hard work have made a lasting impact on our members and our club.

We are incredibly proud of this well-deserved accomplishment and so grateful for all that Mary-Jo contributes to South Street Toastmasters.

Congratulations on this remarkable milestone!

We are also excited to announce that South Street Toastmasters has once again been recognized as a Distinguished Club. This achievement reflects the outstanding leadership of our current President, Susan Mennella, along with the dedication and teamwork of all our club members. At our last South Street Toastmaster’s meeting, our Grammarian presented us with the “Word of the Day,” which was “spectacular”.

The definition of the word:

of, relating to, or being a spectacle: striking , sensational

Example of use: The sight of the tall ships sailing up the Hudson River was spectacular.
