Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ

Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ Serving as the backbone of the Jewish community, we are uniquely positioned to connect the work of our 27 local and overseas partner agencies.

Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ convenes and leads our community to ensure the continuity and strength of the Jewish People, to support a secure Jewish and democratic State of Israel, and to care for Jews in need locally and around the world. As the largest Jewish philanthropy in New Jersey, Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest encompasses Essex, Morris, Sussex, Union, and parts of Som

erset County. What we accomplish together, with the help of people like you, is far greater than what one organization or person can achieve alone. Inspired by the Jewish values of klal yisrael and tikkun olam — one Jewish people and repairing the world — Federation is the one organization that belongs to every Jew, regardless of practice or affiliation. We care for people in need. We build a vibrant Jewish community. We save the world, one person at a time, every day. All of Federation’s work is made possible by the generous contributions of Greater MetroWest community members to our UJA Annual Campaign and through the planned giving and endowment functions of our Jewish Community Foundation.

Belonging, even more than welcoming, means someone feels they are an integral part of the community.
It means not feeling alone in the journey.
It means removing barriers, not just opening doors.
It means being intentional with language, expectations, and access.
This is the work of building a Jewish community that lasts.

Holocaust survivors continue to teach our communities about love and respect for all people. Through their community involvement, they show what it means to live and work with people who have a history of trauma. Communities across the United States are committed to remembering the victims of the Holocaust, honoring the survivors who rebuilt their lives and strengthened communities, and educating future generations about the dangers of hatred, antisemitism, bigotry, and indifference.

On Friday, May 29, nearly 50 representatives of Federation’s partners that serve older adults came together for the CARES Professional Development Day. This annual day of learning and networking is sponsored by the Hy & Sadie Sussman Fund for Eldercare and Aging in Place. We were thrilled to have Lauren Snedeker, Assistant Professor and Coordinator for the MSW Certificate in Aging and Health Program at Rutgers School of Social Work, present an engaging and thought provoking program entitled Ageism & Mental Health: Strengthening Inclusive Practices.

We also had the opportunity to honor several Greater MetroWest professionals with the CARES Award for Professional Excellence.

Tikkun Olam is not just a slogan. It is a call to action, an embodiment of our values, carried l’dor v’dor, from generation to generation. 💙✨

Gabi Sabony, Coordinator of Diller Teen Fellows, and Samantha Meyler, Coordinator of Teen Experiential Learning, from Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ were recognized at Congregation Ahavas Sholom’s Tikkun Olam Awards for their leadership in organizing a volunteer effort supporting Newark’s most vulnerable residents.

On December 14, a major snowstorm hit. Roads closed. Plans stalled. But the work didn’t. Volunteers still showed up to pack and distribute essential supplies, because the people counting on them couldn’t wait.

Their leadership met an urgent need and created space for teens to step up and be part of something bigger than themselves.

In a room filled mostly with adults, our teens were welcomed and treated as such. Not someday. Now.

This is what it looks like when values turn into action across a community, carried forward from one generation to the next.

Lesson from the night: We do not wait for perfect conditions to do the right thing.

With gratitude to Congregation Ahavas Sholom, and to Eric Freedman and Emily Manz, for the partnership and recognition.

Great energy, real connections, and a night full of fun. At BPN’s Cocktails & Conversation, you could feel it. A room of people showing up for each other and supporting our Jewish community through philanthropy.

Jenga. Darts. Axe throwing! The best part? The strong bonds being shared among like-minded Jewish professionals.

Already looking forward to the next one.
