The Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association Local 70 represent the Professional Career Fire Fighters who protect the Township of Morris, New Jersey. Our members are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

🚒 FMBA LOCAL 70 – KEEPING TRADITIONS ALIVE! 🚒

Yesterday evening, active and retired members of FMBA Local 70 came together for our traditional New Hire Dinner!

This longstanding FMBA Local 70 tradition is an opportunity to take our newest firefighters out to celebrate getting on the job and officially welcome them into the brotherhood.

This year, we celebrated our three newest members:

🚒 Firefighter #48 – Jacob Schneider

🚒 Firefighter #49 – Aiden Fernandez

🚒 Firefighter #50 – Tahj Valentine

The New Hire Dinner is more than just a night out. It’s an opportunity for generations of firefighters to come together, share stories and memories, build friendships, and pass down the traditions that have made FMBA Local 70 what it is today.

We would like to thank all of our active and retired members who attended and continue to support the traditions and brotherhood of our organization.

Congratulations to our three newest members! We wish you all long, safe, and successful careers with the Morris Township Fire Department.

Please join FMBA Local 70 in congratulating Firefighter/EMT Andrew Sullivan as he works his final shift with the Morris Township Fire Department today, September 23, 2026.

Andrew has served Morris Township for a little over a year, spending his time assigned to Engine 2. During his time, Andrew responded to numerous fires and spent many of them riding the nozzle, operating on the first line with Engine 2.

Fittingly, Andrew’s final shift was no different. He finished out his time in Morris Township responding with Engine 2 to a 2nd Alarm house fire in Denville — one last fire.

As Andrew finishes his final tour with us, we thank him for his service, hard work, and all the memories made along the way.

Andrew will now continue his fire service career with the Morristown Fire Bureau. FMBA Local 70 wishes him nothing but success in this next chapter.

Congratulations, Andrew, and best of luck! Morristown FMBA 43 is lucky to have you! 🚒🔥

Congrats to our Local 70 President Melissa Alderton on becoming a life member with the NJ FMBA 🎉

Today, on the final day of the NJ FMBA 130th Annual Convention, we were proud to recognize the newest Life Members of the NJ FMBA.

This honor reflects years of commitment, service, and active involvement in the work of our union. Life Membership is a meaningful recognition of those who have dedicated their time and effort to strengthening the FMBA and supporting our membership.

Congratulations to all of today’s honorees on this well deserved recognition and thank you for your continued service to the NJ FMBA!

Fire Shield Award

This evening, Firefighter Patrick O’Shea was honored with the Fire Shield Award by the Knights of Columbus.

The Knights of Columbus Fire Shield Award is presented annually to recognize firefighters who exemplify exceptional courage, professionalism, leadership, and dedication to protecting their communities. The award honors individuals who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty through outstanding service, commitment to public safety, and selfless devotion to others, reflecting the core values of integrity, faith, and service upheld by the Knights of Columbus.

We would also like to thank Chief Mike Nunn for nominating Patrick for this well-deserved recognition.

The members of FMBA Local 70 congratulate Patrick on receiving this prestigious award and thank him for his continued dedication and service to the residents of Morris Township.

FMBA Local 70 Welcomes Our Newest Member

Today, July 6, 2026, FMBA Local 70 is proud to welcome our newest career firefighter, Tahj Valentine (Badge #50), to the Morris Township Fire Department.

Tahj has been a dedicated member of the Woodland Hook & Ladder Company since the age of 18, demonstrating his commitment to the fire service and his community.

We are excited to have Tahj join our ranks and look forward to the contributions he will make throughout his career.

Please join us in welcoming Firefighter Valentine to FMBA Local 70 and wishing him a long, safe, successful, and rewarding career. Congratulations, Tahj!

1st Annual Kevin P. Flanagan Memorial Picnic

This afternoon, current and retired members of FMBA Locals 70 and 270, along with their families, attended the 1st Annual Kevin P. Flanagan Memorial Picnic.

Members enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, clams, along with a variety of sides and desserts. It was a great afternoon filled with laughter, camaraderie, and time spent together.

This picnic was organized by members to honor the memory of our brother, Kevin P. Flanagan, whom we lost last summer. Kevin’s dedication, friendship, and impact on those around him will never be forgotten. Today’s gathering served as a reminder that while he may no longer be with us, he will always remain a part of our FMBA family.
