Here are the winners of our Gallery One Exhibition: Negative Space.
BEST OF SHOW: Marguerite Paris, Summer in the Mountains
Paris utilizes her negative space to guide the viewer’s eyes to the subject. Pastel layering techniques create unique atmospheric perspective. Great care is taken in the creation of color shapes depicting shadows. Color selections mirror seasonal weather and the mood.
BEST THEME: Chad Wooters, Chance, Necessity, and Fate
Wooters’ use of color and value in his negative space draws curiosity and creates narrative. The dark figures silhouetted with a luminescent pink surrounded by chromatic greys and greens establish suspense.
SPECIAL MERIT AWARDS
P.Mitroff, Potato Flowers
Mitroff demonstrates curiosity in their vibrant and meticulous articulation of the humble potato flower. Careful inspections have allowed the artist to appreciate different stages of flower maturity. Pencil technique varied and well used throughout.
Pallavi Jain, The Space Beyond the Portal
Jain utilizes multiple modes of perspective framing the subject with a carefully rendered foreground. The artist plays with perspective and negative space, creating curiosity throughout the piece.
Candace Thomas, Petrified Tree Stump
Thomas’ use of organic marks and form feel precise yet fresh and natural. The overall piece is striking and encourages viewers’ eyes to identify forms, movement, and flow throughout.
