The Iron Dog family is saddened to hear of the passing of Joyce Logan, past owner of the Skwentna Roadhouse and a member of the Iron Dog Hall of Fame.

Joyce was part of the Iron Dog tradition for decades. Beginning in 1986, Joyce and the Skwentna Roadhouse welcomed racers as the first northbound checkpoint and the last southbound checkpoint, always ready with a warm place to stop, a cup of coffee, and the kind of hospitality racers remembered long after leaving the trail.

Her dedication went well beyond Skwentna. In 1988 and 1989, Joyce volunteered as the only checker at the historic Rohn Roadhouse Cabin, flying in with the fuel, food, and supplies needed to keep the checkpoint going. She cut wood to warm the cabin, kept hot food ready for racers, and worked by the light of a single Coleman lantern.

Joyce was named Iron Dog Volunteer of the Year in 1999 and was inducted into the Iron Dog Hall of Fame in 2010, recognizing the many years she gave to the race and the people who traveled the trail.

Her connection to Iron Dog became a family tradition, with her daughter Bonnie carrying on what Joyce started so many years ago.

Our thoughts are with Joyce's family, friends, and the Skwentna community. We are grateful for the many years she welcomed Iron Dog racers and volunteers, opened her doors to the race, and helped make Skwentna a place generations of Iron Doggers will always remember.

Thank you for everything, Joyce. You will be missed.
