Dear Camp Supporters,

This summer, we will be honoring Miss Terry Turner and her commitment for serving 15 years as the Camp Nurse at LaVerne Griffin Campin Wasilla, Alaska. She has performed many duties during her time at the camp and has served under three different directors during that time frame: Walter and Sherry Chastain, Tyler and Carrie Canup and, for the past three years, Stephen Simmons. All of this time has been in a volunteer capacity, but there is no denying the absolutely integral part she has played in the ministry of the camp.

Among the duties she has taken upon herself have been, planning and cooking meals (to include exclusive authority over the peach cobbler), taking care of a zillion loads of laundry (to include attempting to teach how to fold fitted sheets), cleaning, leading in Bible studies, and giving out gallons of “itchy cream” for mosquito bites. She has served as our camp nurse, supported children as well as summer staff, missionary personnel, and our yearly regular staff. Miss Terry has served in our busy summer seasons as well as numerous times in the “off-season”.

Each year, at the end of summer, she says “I’ll be back next year, if you’ll have me”. There has never been a question that she is welcome and loved as often as she wanted to be on the campus, to serve.

She has been an inspiration to so many and we would like to acknowledge her yearly presence and unwavering dedication.

Please consider writing a note of appreciation, or perhaps send a photo of you along with a letter of appreciation/memory, poetry, or art, as we would like to collect these items and put them into a book for her to have as a keepsake for her time and efforts at LaVerne.

You may send these items to Tracy or Karen Simmons at 3310 Capstan Court, Anchorage AK 99516 or through our email at [email protected].

For those who are local, we will have a scheduled event sometime this summer season to recognize Miss Terry and you will be welcome to attend.

Thank you for taking the time to make this happen. We wish we could do so much more, but we are also aware that Miss Terry would refuse to accept it! She has been steadfast in the assertion that she serves out of love for the kids and love for the camp. Her work is her reward, but we all know how valuable she is.
